A few reasons as to why I've rated this the way I have. The first is the design flaw of the holes being near the bottom, if I wanted to buy extra balls (initially I did) the more that were put in the more would fall into the tunnel, I have the standard amount of balls that came with the purchase (not enough to cover all the gaps of the bottom part of the pit) and they still got into the tunnel, a few isn't a big deal but if there were more balls, more would fall in and cause a blockage problem. Second is the material, I bought this for my ferrets, they tore through the bottom of the pit of all sides except 1 and crawl in and out through the bottom, it's not a tiny hole, they completely detached it. The last isnt that big of a deal but has caused problems, when one ferret tried to climb out, the pit falls with the ferret because of his weight (he's a baby) and has even folded back into the packaging state and trapped a sleeping ferret in the tunnel, unable to escape until I took notice of what happened and fixed it - it shouldn't transform back into the folded state that easily.
Needs more balls. The included balls did not even cover the floor of the thing. It is not very sturdy and the ferrets do not seem to like the holes on the side that much. Axel leaned over the side and climbed out. For less than the price of this item I ordered 144 ping pong balls. Apparently ferrets really like ping pong balls so I shall see. Was quite disappointed. For five dollars added to the price of the item they could have included more balls to make it a really worthwhile purchase
I have 2 ferrets and thought this would be perfect for their play time. However, this soooo small and it just flips. Also there is one tiny bag of balls that comes with this. I think there were 6... maybe 8. You're better off buying the balls for a child's ball pit and use a box or small pool.
Although the ball bit is very well made, the balls are a huge disappointment. There are not enough balls (don't get fooled by the picture, the manufacturer must have put in it three-four times more balls than actually come with the product). Besides, the balls aren't heavy duty as expected from an item designed for sharp-toothed pets. My ferrets poked holes in them within minutes. I would have given one star, but my ferrets love to play with this item, so I give it two stars. I believe that the two stars are fair for the amount of time my ferrets will get to play with this product before it gets completely destroyed and will have to go to the trash.
I purchased this item and the accompanying balls and the Super Ferret Thru Way for a 2-year old panda female X ferret. She absolutely loves it and went completely nuts trying to get to it from the moment that I opened the package. She was so excited that I had to let her play with it as I was assembling it because when I locked her up to assemble it, she started attacking her cage. She has never done that. Once in the pit, she was as happy as I've ever seen her.
My complaint, and the reason for the low rating, is the balls. They are very weak and very easily destroyed. My ferret loves them and chews and chews on them until they are so damaged that they no longer resemble a ball. She completely destroyed two balls in her first 10 minutes with the toy. They are not cheap to replace, either.
I'm disappointed because Marshall likes to bill itself as the world's largest ferret breeder and therefore the world's foremost authority on ferrets. You would think, then, that they would only put their name on something that could withstand a ferret's attentions for a long period of time, not less-than-10-minutes.
Did I mention that my ferret absolutely adores this, even weeks later?
My only problem is not even with the product itself, but that my ferret took about 10 seconds to dump it out and start hiding the balls in her hidey hole! I can't imagine many ferrets behavior would be different. She IS still getting great joy from all the little plastic balls that appear all over our home! LOL!
The item was slightly torn at the corner when I opened it up to use for the first time. As a customer, when I buy an item I expect it to be of quality. Seeing the corner slightly torn like when it's supposed to brand new doesn't make for a happy customer. If I had seen this at the pet store I wouldn't have bought it.
