I love my bikes being spotless. I love washing my bikes. I find it relaxing and also help to maintain them at their best and extend their life and value.
A grimy bicycle it's always a pity to look at and mechanical parts get worn quicker. I do it roughly once a week or every time they need it. I can say that I have used almost every product on the market. Not being paid by anyone, I can state that the best products on a value-for-money basis are with no doubts the Muc-Off ones. Which sometimes come overpriced, because of their efficiency and fame. (Stock them when you find good prices!) This degreaser has always been my favourite one. It's really hardworking, there's no kind of dirt it can't remove. I restored an old chain from a rusty BMX not being used for years, and it turned out almost as new. It's also safe for the environment, which to me is really a big deal. I just simply hated its older spray nozzle, the one still pictured, as it used to leak and break after a few sprays, wasting a lot of expensive liquid every time. I since started applying it with a brush, to avoid the mess caused by the leaking nozzle.
It's now the first time that the price on Amazon is better than specialized cycling websites, so why not grab a few?
SURPRISINGLY, they came with a new spray, which was the real trouble on the former version. This new spray nozzle deserved a test, and a good review, because now it's truly flawless. It's like your usual spray detergent nozzle. It's bigger than before, more ergonomic and certainly more secure. In the long run it will save you loads of liquid compared to the brush method, which I still keep for extreme dirt situations.
Invest on a good chain brush machine, those plasticky boxes with spinning brushes that cost a few quids online, and you'll be set.
Just spray it all over the drivetrain, chain, sprockets, pedals, cranksets, leave it for a good 15 minutes, and then brush away the biggest dirt, flush with fresh water, re-apply a bit of it, other 15 mins, flush again this time with a clean sponge, and you'll be done.
Your drivetrain will look as new. If I can give you a good advice, go a bit over, spray a bit of my favourite GT-85 (which sometimes costs 1/5 of the Muc-Off MO-95, which is basically the same formula) and you'll be sure the water you flushed your chain with will go away and your chain will be protected from rusting.
Then let it dry and lube it all over with a few drops of their ceramic lubes, that cost like 2-3 pounds more than the basic ones, but are on a completely different level and will save your gears for ages.
Spray attachment worked perfectly but as others have already stated it is unnecessary. Put some on a toothbrush or a cloth, there is no substitute for good old fashioned elbow grease. I usually work it in and allow it to work for a few minutes, rinse off with thoroughly with very hot water and then repeat for any bits I've missed. If you skip the spray and apply it where it's actually needed using a toothbrush or a cloth then one bottle will last ages. Apply a good lube and you're all set.
For added longevity of your drivetrain dry everything off, then with a very damp cloth carefully run it a over the areas you cleaned, then rinse it in a bucket, if the water remains clear then you're good to go, if it's goes cloudy rinse and repeat until it remains clear.
The extra effort produces results and means I can enjoy my commute with silky smooth gear changes and reduced friction noise. The chain in the pictures is 6 years old and always comes up like new when I use this.
Simple spray I like how easy it was to set up, just take of the travel cap remove the foil then screw on the spray 👍🤓 Once you spray and let it work into grease etc it was then easy to wipe off. It did take a couple of attempts for the deep old grease and muck. But over all quite pleased If you like my review please press the helpful button
Forget the spray nozzle that comes with this - I always find these to be a wasteful method of applying. I put about 20ml in a mug and applied to chain with a toothbrush. Left for a while and wipe off with hot wet cloth. Worked wonders.
I use it to fill the bottom of a chain bath. Firstly I spray the drive chain and cassette with the degreaser and then run the chain through the chain bath. Almost immediately you can see the difference. I do this twice followed by a scrub with a brush and then rinse it with hot water and then dry with a cloth. Then I add some wet lube and remove the excess with another cloth. Chain looks immaculate and it takes no more than 10 minutes to do. Nice scent too. Great product and will be buying this product regularly to keep my chain clean. I'm writing this review because I'm genuinely very impressed with this product and how well it works to remove the grease and muck off by chain.
Cleaning(with brushes)- very good. Leaves behind only the toughest and most ingrained grim and dirt.
Application - quite a wide spray nozzle supplied so you'll need to hold it close-ish. Have not tried pouring/brushing it on.
Scent - very little but would still not use it in a confined space as a precaution.
Removal after cleaning - very simple, just pour warm water over a couple of time and it will just need dried before applying any lubricants.
Overall - very good degreaser that will be tough on any build up (even the several months of mine) leaving a clean chain ready for lubrication. Would highly recommend this as part of any bike cleaning kit.
I've tried a lot of drivetrain cleaners. This one has provided the best results. Apply generously over the cassette and chain. Scrub well with a brush and work into the chain (plenty of YouTube videos showing the best way to do this; I followed GCNs ). Leave for 5 minutes and remove with water. Dry the bike and the chain and cassette look like new. Very pleased with the results and highly recommended. Smells great, too! 5/5
This stuff is great. It's a little on the expensive side, but if you use it in combination with the Chain Cleaning Device, a little goes a long way, so personally I don't mind that.
It really cuts through the grease, and when you look at the state of the fluid left behind (for example in the sump of the Chain Cleaning Device), you get the feeling that it's really helping the life of your chain, and reducing the drag/friction caused by grit/dirt in your drive chain.
As a CX rider, I clean my chain after almost every ride, which is probably over the top for most people, but this really takes the strain out of drive chain cleaning.
Plus, it's eco credentials seems to be pretty good!
More powerful than the standard pink Muc-Off but don't expect to be able to spray it on and simply wash it off. It still requires a brush to get a good result but overall very pleased with the results and up to the usual high Muc-Off standards. Would buy again.
