To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
We purchased the original set, three additional cameras, and four wide-angle lenses. One camera pixelated after only a few months of use, but the sound remained good. Infant Optics said they'd gladly send a replacement camera, but the other issues caused us to rely on the amazon PRIME warranty and get our money back on all the Infant Optic items we bought. Issues: 1. One camera pixelated. 2. Night vision, with or without the wide-angle lense, is only good up to about 2 feet, not far enough for our needs. 3. Bought this particular brand because they offered the wide-angle lense, perfect for our application. Problem: It reduces night vision significantly. We could not distinguish between a pillow and a curled-up child. Very grainy. But, we needed to be able to see two beds at once, which the wide angle lense afforded us to do. You can't do both things of being 2 feet away AND seeing the entire room with the wide-angle lense. Infant Optics recommended we not use the wide-angle lense, which defeats the purpose of selecting their product in the first place, which now has a pixelated camera. 4. Several reviewers love the wall mount, but we do not. The key-hole mount is on the BOTTOM, only suitable if you are mounting the camera above a bed. If you are trying to see an entire room and be able to pan from side to side to see it, the wall mount has the lense facing down, with only a slight ability to tilt up. When panning, you see the wall, the floor and part of the center of the room, and then the other wall. For us, it would need to be sitting on a shelf. Infant Optics would only offer replacements for defective parts and no refunds, as it was beyond the first 30 days. Replacements would not fix our problems. Amazon then made good on the problems once it was determined Infant Optics would/could not. I have shipping labels in hand and will get a full refund of everything when they get it and am now shopping for a replacement.
I did SO MUCH research before buying this camera. I read the negative reviews but was swayed by the amount of high ratings and decided to try it anyway. I have regretted the purchase every day and am now going to return the items. The battery life was not very good to begin with but after owning it for about 2 months it will not turn on unless plugged into the charger, defeating the point of having a mobile monitor to carry around the house. (I've spoken to two other friends who have the same camera and have had the same problem...with the monitors eventually completely dieing.) One reason I decided to purchase this was due to the wide-angle lens option, which works great during the day-time but renders the night vision totally useless. We can't see our kid in the dark. Even with the regular lense on the camera it is very difficult to see at night unless it is mounted 2-3 ft away from your child. Another big dissapointment with this set-up is the lack of options when adding additional cameras. We have two children and wanted a camera in each room (by the way, and additional camera with this brand is the same price as some entire sets! Something to think about if you are wanting to add more cameras in the future $$$). There is no split screen option, so there is no way to see in both kids rooms at the same time. Rather, it just switches back and forth every few seconds. I eventually got used to this, but if a child is crying, the camera does not automatically switch to that room. I have to fumble around in the dark to press the right button and/or wait for the screen to switch to see where the noise is coming from. Rather annoying in the middle of the night. I was also disappointed in the overall picture quality; I was expecting a clearer video at the price-point. It's definitely grainy, especially at night-time. Overall, I would highly recommend AGAINST buying this product. I have no idea how it has so many 5-star reviews.
UPDATE: I absolutely HATE this monitor system. First, this company is inflating their reviews by including a message in the box for the device that asks customers to post a review in exchange for a free second camera (valued at $99 here on Amazon). We played along because we needed a second camera. I hate that I’m probably part of what has made this company so successful. My best friend just bought this monitor because of the reviews even though I continue to talk her into returning it! Ugh! The picture on this monitor is awful quality! We used to have a Summer monitor that was so much better quality. I do like the interchangeable wide angle lens (the only thing I like—which you’ll pay an extra $20 to own). I hate that the speaker for this unit is on the BACK! You have to lay it on its face to hear at night. Standing it up risks it falling over and you not being able to hear. But if you are worried about hearing your kids, you shouldn’t buy from this company at ALL! We just discovered today that if you have the monitor on scan and a camera gets unplugged, it stays on that camera (the unplugged one) and STOPS scanning. We woke up to find our baby covered in dried vomit. It was everywhere like he had been crying for us. Did we hear him? No. By strange coincidence, the monitor in my daughter’s room was unplugged. The monitor was only showing her unplugged warning screen instead of switching to my son’s room. What a terrible flaw! In the product’s defense, I had turned off the alarm feature (not understanding it). I turned the alarm back on high and recreated the scenario to find out that the unplugged monitor does create an alarm, but the camera stays on the warning screen and does stop scanning. So angry about my baby being put through all that. If you still decide to buy this piece of junk, don’t turn the alarm off ever! But seriously, find something else. I am so sorry we bought this and even sorrier that we kept it after we realized this company was scamming the Amazon reviews!
INITIAL REVIEW: We purchased this monitor system over the weekend and found the set up was easy. We added on an additional camera today to try the whole thing out and it seems to work well for us so far. Pairing the new camera was simple. I like how the camera can point at a lower angle than our previous Summer monitor. Downsides are that I wish it could do split screen and automatically stay on a camera if sound is detected. I prefer that instead of scanning. Another downside is that the monitor light seemed a bit bright in our room last night. I wish there were a way to turn it down or off. Overall though, it appears to be at least as good as our old Summer monitor and probably a bit better.
I purchased mine about 2 years ago and to this day the support team has not been able to resolve the issue. I will turn the monitor on and about 10 seconds later get a lower battery warning beep. I then have to power it off open the battery compartment and unplug and plug in the battery. This usually solves the issue and I then get a decent battery life out of it. I told infant optics about this and they promptly sent out a new unit. This new unit had the same issue. They then sent me a battery. This did not solve the issue. Then they sent me a new unit and battery and still did not solve the issue.
This has gone on for about 1 year and just recently they basically told me that since it is outside the warranty the best they could do is give me a 50% discount on a new unit even though this has been an ongoing issue from the beginning. They were not able to guarantee that the new unit would fix the issue, and would not admit that the product was defective. Kind of amazing that they think this is a way to do business. All I want is a monitor I can take off the charge in the middle of the night and not have to worry about the battery crapping out after 10 seconds.
Overall I would not recommend this product if you are looking for something that is reliable. This unit has been nothing but reliable when it comes to the battery. At this point my current unit needs to be restarted about 5 times before it will recognize the battery and actually stay turned on. Extremely frustrating with a new born at 3 in the morning...
**I will try to get a video of this uploaded in due time.**
Will never buy this product again or recommend to any mom friends. I had a summer infant monitor for three years and never had a single issue. I got this camera six months agonand have an issue all the time. Reception cuts in an out and we live in a small one story home. The picture quality is so grainy you can’t tell if your kids eyes are open or closed. If they’re breathing. No details just grainy blurry pictures of the outline of your child. I invested hundreds of dollars to have two cameras and the monitor and I am so disappointed. I wish I would have stuck with summer infant brand. Customer service is not helpful and very slow. We now have a six month old monitor that can’t operate unless the battery is removed and the monitor is plugged into the wall and tilted at just the right way to get both kids pictures. So frustrating.
Check out the new Eufy space view instead. I bought this along with the unit for my son when he was born. About 4 months in we started having battery issues. Used the standard tricks for a couple months before I had to buy a new battery. Then at about 16 months the night vision on this camera stopped working and my son looked like a blurry blob. I then swapped out my other camera (originally had two because one was over bassinet in our room). However, then at 17 months, the monitor lost signal completely and just made that horrible shrill noise no matter what. Nothing on troubleshooting worked. I replaced it with the Eufy spaceview and am much happier, I’m happy there’s now a decent alternative for a non-wifi monitor.
I bought this monitor for use with my first baby 2 years ago. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it so when my second baby came along, I bought the additional camera because I didn’t want 2 monitors. However, the monitor is breaks ALL THE time. The battery life on the monitor was great at first and then it wouldn’t hold a charge for longer than 2 minutes. I read on the reviews that you should unplug the battery and then replug it so I’ve done that a few times and it seems to fix it short term. And then the monitor stopped working all together the other day. It’s a shame because now we have 2 cameras but no working monitor. For the price, I would say this is a lower quality item. You use the monitor every day when you have babies and this product definitely won’t last you long. I would not recommend this product if you plan on using it for longer than a year.
These cameras have a very limited radius. It doesn’t rotate in any direction very far and I had a very hard time getting it to look into our baby’s crib. The picture quality is poor during the day and abysmal at night. Also, I keep getting the “out of range” signal even when I’m only ten feet away from the unit. It happens randomly throughout the day, which is obviously less than ideal - there’s nothing worse than the camera going out when it comes to monitoring your baby. This camera and the unit it goes to - highly recommend you DO NOT purchase. Don’t waste your money like I did.
Within 6 months of buying the monitor it stopped holding a charge. After a year of trying all types of fixes, we were fed up. We contacted customer service and tried all of their tips but the problem was not fixed. Their most recent comment was that we were no longer under warranty and for us to buy a new power cord. I wanted to love this product and do like the fact that we can have two cameras, but the cord falls out on its own frequently and immediately starts beeping that there is insufficient battery life and then shuts off! Definitely frustrating! Don’t waste your money!
