I like my MEC packing cubes better because they're made of a thinner, lighter (but very durable) material and deeper (I'm assuming comparable to the speckter for Eagle Creek). These I find actually use up more space...I'll have to try them when I pack for my week long vacation and then provide an update...
This travel pack combined with the EAGLE CREEK suit bag (not its official name) that i purchased at the container store have been amazing and really helped me organize my clothing for travel. Its been a really nice feeling knowing where my clothing is instead of having to shuffle through my luggage to find something. I bought this one first, and i'll probably get another. The bags can fit a good amount, and the shirt folder is great, in that it can be filled with at least 8 men's shirts (i'm 6 ft tall and 195 lbs). Overall the set is great, i'd like to see it priced a little cheaper, but i'm sure you can find a better deal than i did.
...from one who's never had a manual bag search by the TSA. The Eagle Creek pack-it system is excellent. I've been using elements of it for ages -- so long that the plastic cards in the original components degraded and had to go. This starter kit is good, but the shirt-folder unit is of a size slightly too large for most backpacks/bookbags/computer-bags, so it's really only valid for trips that warrant a carry-on or something checkable. Aside from that this is a 5-star kit (and I'll just go buy the size I actually need).
I do love the two cubes that came along with this set. However, the folder did not hold the clothes crease free and this is the reason why I gave it a 4 star. I may have packed too many clothes but I only folded 1 silk dress, 1 lace jacket, 1 silk blouse, 1 rayon dress, 3 sleeveless summer tops and 1 lace dress. When I arrived at my destination, I quickly took the clothes out and had to send most of them out to be ironed before I could use them. I packed 4 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of cotton pants, 2 tee shirts and 2 pairs of cotton shorts in the middle cube and they were in pretty good condition when I arrived. The last cube was used to pack my trinkets and whatnots. The suitcase was well organised with this set and I had more than enough space for my shopping. I would buy the cubes but would not get another folder.
I just returned from 9 days in California where I used the largest and smallest of these three bags. I traveled with nothing but one, carry-on suitcase and I returned with stuff I never even wore. The large bag held one pair of dress pants, 2 pair of shorts, 3 dress shirts, 3 t-shirts (plus one extra souvenir t-shirt on the return trip), one pair of pajama pants and a pair of swim trunks. I crammed all my socks and undies into the smallest bag. With these two bags packed in my case, I had plenty of room for my toiletries, extra camera bag, hat, jacket, sweatshirt, snack food and more in one carry-on case. Note: I did use a laundry facility once during my trip.
I have had an Eagle Creek flat pack (the larger piece in this set) for years. My guy is always amazed how much I can pack in it and how organized it keeps my luggage. I decided to get him one for Christmas. Saw this set with the small and medium packing cases and opted to try it. We can each use one for underwear although I have not tried them yet. As we are carrying smaller luggage these help me maximize the available space.
These are awesome. I can pack for 4 nights and just use my carry on. I love how they compress and organize the clothes. The flat one for dress clothes is OK. I use the plastic board to fold and I still get some creases. However, I hang in the bathroom and run the shower and all the creases fall out. I'm looking to buy more (different colors - so each has their own) so I can pack family clothes and not take as many suitcases on vacation.
