We decided we should have hand pies (empanadas) on game day. Tried making from scratch and forming by hand and decided that wasn't going to fly. Too much work for a poor result. Found this empanada press at Amazon and found ready-to-use empanada rounds at my local latino grocery store. In the freezer case. Open the press flat and place the round in the press, pushing down on one site to form to the press. Add about a half cup of your chosen mixture and fold the press over. You can wet the edges first with water or egg wash. Press hard for a minute and then holding the press closed, use a knife to trim the excess dough. Place on your baking tray and brush with melted butter or egg wash to help browning. bake and enjoy.
I absolutely LOVE this empanada press. The press arrived quickly and in great shape. I started using it the following day. I have been using it to make meat pies, calzones, and fruit pies for the family. It is a great option for using up leftovers. I make up some dough, then place a generous portion of some stew or other filling into the press and fold it up. The seal on the dough is tight and unless I over-stuff the dough, it will not leak the filling during baking. I have used it with both a pie crust recipe and a bread style dough with equally great results.
Okay let’s just say this saved me. I once bought this same product here in Amazon and I hated it and to make it worse, returning it was hell that I just gave up. Saw this again though it was plastic, i decided to give it a try and to my surprise, it came in 2-3 business days. Better then the one I got from the other seller that Amazon won’t let me give the other seller 1 star or zero stars. Yes I love this one and am given it five stars all.
