Awful! It leaves a gooey residue that coats the hair and smothers it completely. When brushing the result is that my hair got pulled out so much my brush was full of it and the brush was also coated in that waxy residue. I will not buy it again. That was an expensive mistake! I also made the mistake to use it on the rest of the body...
This is the first bar shampoo I’ve tried. I wanted something without palm oil. That’s hard to find.
I’ve only used it twice!
After the first wash, I was in love. My hair felt clean. I didn’t need a conditioner. There was no frizz. (Frizz is something I battle.)
I waited two days, brushed my hair thoroughly in between, and washed my hair again. The second time I understand what people mean by feeling as though there is a film that’s left behind. It’s not that big a deal, except the frizz came back.
I’ve read this happens on almost all the bar shampoo reviews I read, though, and I am determined not to use plastic bottles any longer. (I need to write Amazon a letter about their packing methods. There is no sense buying this on Amazon when it is shipped in a bunch of plastic!)
Anyway, I am going to try the apple cider vinegar rinse and will try to remember to update this post.
Update: It's been a couple more weeks, and I still haven't tried the apple cider vinegar rinse, but I am starting to love this bar. Sometimes it feels weird in the shower, a bit stickier (like bar soap) than bottle shampoo, but once my hair is dry, it's great. I haven't needed any conditioner, which says a lot for my easily tangled slightly curly hair. I don't get the bedhead clumping in the back. My hair looks and feels thicker.
It took a while to get used to it not feeling so light. I think I've come to associate the oil stripping of bottle shampoo with clean hair, but the frizz is definitely gone.
So far so good. I'll post again if anything changes.
INITIAL REVIEW: I guess I already wrote this review under the seller's profile, so bear with me if you've heard it before. There is a piece of plastic embedded in my soap bar. I used it this morning, I didn't notice the plastic because the top layer of soap had JUST melted down to reveal it, and now I have a deep scratch running across my chest. Be careful with this company. As much as I wanted to love the product...and frankly, I did love the product before it cut me up...I can't trust a company with such poor quality control. I'll be purchasing similar products from another company from now on.
EDITED REVIEW: Ok. So I am amending this review because the representatives of the company have been 110% responsive, and were horrified that this happened. They told me that the manufacture process was plastic-free so I believe them when they say that this was some bizarre fluke. I've always said that I love the product, and I take back my previous "You've lost me as a customer!" rant. Any company that cares enough to send multiple emails and refund not only this specific product but every other product that I've purchased from them in the past (the VooDoo bar, also fabulous) is a company that I will happily continue to do business with.
I bought two bars a year ago, mainly because my son would be hiking in the mountains and did not want to take liquids. He said he really liked it. After a year, I tried the other bar. I rubbed the bar directly on my hair. I was surprised it sudsed up. I also used it as a bath bar. Drying my hair, I noticed how soft my hair was. It seemed to add moisture as my hair is very very dry in the winter.
Ok wow! I was a little nervous to be trying this shampoo. It’s my first time using a shampoo bar and I really didn’t know what to expect. A little bit goes a long way and it lathers so well. My hair post-wash was easy to detangle and had virtually no frizz once dry. It’s silky and smooth again I didn’t know I could achieve that in this hot Texas summer! I opted out of the ACV rinse but I might try to do it once every few washes or so. I hope it doesn’t run out quickly!
Edited to add: I’ve found it’s helpful to double-cleanse and to really make sure you get all of the shampoo out afterward.
Like some other people, when I first used this it left me looking the part of a greasy hippie, even with using an apple cider rinse. After a couple times, I decided to wash my hair with a bit of left over bottled natural shampoo and noticed my hair was ridiculously sudsy. It dawned on me what happened. I had left over shampoo in my hair. I tried again, trying to use less but still get all my hair, but it was still too much. Not the fault of the bar, I simply have ridiculously thick hair and it was grabbing a lot of the shampoo and holding on to it. The next time I took a zester and shaved a couple teaspoons, mixed that with warm water then added that to more water in an empty shampoo bottle(around 13oz of water total). I can now get it through my hair and out with no leftover shampoo deposit. I have been doing this for close to a month, still using apple cider rinse afterwards(no conditioner) and my hair looks amazing. I'm still on the first bottle of mix, and that's on thick, almost mid back length hair(I would have almost been through a regular bottle shampoo). I also dye my hair bright colours, and this washing method has left my colour bright and almost unfaded, while other natural shampoo usually has faded out the colour almost completely by the same time frame.
I Love this shampoo. Love; love; love! To begin with, I’ve been finding bar shampoo quicker and easier to use than traditional ‘goop’. But I adore this shampoo specifically because it makes my hair do what, according to DNA testing, God intended all along. ;) Until this shampoo, my hair would curl a bit, but due to stress, it typically brushed out pretty flat, once dry. (If curious, look up ‘stress bars’ on bird feathers; I suspect human hair does much the same thing.) With this shampoo, however, my hair expands into a gorgeous crimped mane, full of natural volume! Even if I’ve used a heavy conditioner! Consider me a loyal customer for life.
When I first tried this product my hair felt like straw. I was going to return it when I figured I'd give it another shot hoping it was just the natural aspect instead of commercialized product. Several washings later I've found it works wonders and the compliments I've received on my hair are all in the positive. I've changed nothing except shampoo ( the bar stated here) and quinoa bar conditioner. I've changed my review from a three to a five star. If at first it seems to make hair dry and unmanageable, try several more washes then decide. I don't think you'll be displeased
