Description says it has 2 x DisplayPorts v1.2 (released in 2010) which according to VESA website must implements 4Kp@60Hz: That is not true.
Used VESA Certified HBR2 DisplayPort cables, a BenQ PD2700U monitor and a HP EliteBook 850 G5 (Intel UHD Graphics 620), I couldn't go beyond 1080p@60Hz.
Undocked and using the Laptop HDMI 1.4 port goes to its max spec, 4Kp@30Hz, so Monitor and Laptop are not the problem.
Called HP Customer Support and their reply was the Docking will not go beyond 2.5K on any port, which I wasn't able to reach. I couldn't find an official written specification of the version, so seems that nobody knows which is actually supported.
A shame, I've been using this Docking for years at the office with different Laptops and it is very convenient, but it was always less than 1080p. If you don't need 4K this is an excellent and tough product, in my opinion better than those with the USB-C fragile cable. This is why I give it 3 stars.
But I spent $800 extras on the 4K monitors that I am not willing to resign it now.
you work at home crazy people, you know you want dual LCD's off your dumb work laptop... Yeah I heard you...guess what, here it is, it works plug and play and right out of box, yes two display ports, yes dual monitors, yest on the slug HP laptop with minimal ports itself. Can you run dual monitors other ways, yes. But here you get built in 2 display ports and other easy access to USB ports...etc, and charging..etc off an device you don't have to unplug or otherwise screw with. Great for those who work from home or otherwise will use a laptop in a desktop role and want some simplicity with the ability to interface with larger external monitors. No regrets.
I bought this docking station to help me get better resolution from my dated work laptop (HP EliteBook 820, G3). For weeks I’ve been struggling to get the resolution to reflect 2560x1080; it wouldn’t go that high even with multiple adapters, primarily DP to HDMI (directly to the 29:1 UltraWide monitor), combinations of cables and adapters, updating drivers, going into advanced display settings, etc. I read reviews elsewhere that a docking station may do the trick for some reason.. and I am now happily able to say that this docking station, along with a DP to HDMI cable, have worked! Very happy! No more blurry screens! Came new in box, sealed, exactly as described.
Works flawlessly for my HP 840 G5. I'm running a single DP monitor, keyboard and wireless mouse. No problems switching from docking to no-docking mode and works fine whether I use my laptop opened or closed.
There is 1 HDMI port on the HP computer that is to go with this docking station. The HDMI port gets covered when put into the docking station. Our IT department talked with HP directly before I bought the docking station. We were told this is the only docking that works with my system. I did have a prior docking station that worked well but was told by HP (via our IT department) that it may ruin my hard drive.
The one I received looks used. It has stains on the top and is chipped in the back. In addition, the description says this is a D9y32aa - it is not the same product. The product number is completely different.
Product is advertised as new but it is clearly used or refurbished. Even though the shipping box was not damaged, plastic inside was broken and my laptop (HP Elitebook) wouldn’t dock. There is a small hook that was off (loose from the inside), so every time I tried to “plug” my laptop it wouldn’t stay. Tried several ways but to no avail. For the price paid I was expecting a new working product, but instead received something which I have to return now.
It's all good. Pretty much plug and play with two monitors, a wireless keyboard and mouse. No issues. Easy schmeezy. Had to get a VGA to DisplayPort adapter from Amazon for one of the monitors. The other one used VGA no problem. Outstanding. Seller reached out via e mail to make sure I was happy. I am. Very. :)
