This scale is made very well. 🙌 You can tell its got a good amount of substance to it because the weight of it is really nice. Full disclosure: I am upgrading from my Ozeri Pronto and this Greater Goods scale is definitely better out of the box - the Ozeri a smidgen flimsy and its still the best seller on Amazon apparently. 😅
My first few weighings were with coffee grounds and I dropped them gently onto the top and you can watch the half gram measurements change quite smoothly - this is a good sign the tech is high quality. With some other scales I’ve had the numbers would pulse or pause in between the changes - which usually means the scale has lower accuracy.
The buttons are very responsive, just don’t get them wet. I read a few reviews saying they didn’t like the touch buttons, but from experience with my coffee scale at work, when your click buttons break all you got is a broken scale, these touch buttons last way longer than the click buttons.
I’m also a month+ into using this scale everyday and I haven’t had any battery issues, and I also saw that Greater Goods will cover your battery cost if you do have any issues - and I’m also loving that I have a 2-year warranty and the charity connections with this scale. That’s all I can think of at this point. Oh, and I’ll update my review if anything comes up down the road! Hopefully this review is helpful for anyone comparing looking at scales like I did. 😊 Thanks for reading!
Pros: an all glass top makes this REALLY easy to clean. Far more than my old scale, that had a glass top mounted on the electronic part. The units button has most of the options that you will need, including lb/oz, g, fl oz, and mL. The "liquid" measurements are a little weird, since something like mL isn't going to be different from grams unless you also have a calculator handy to correct for some weird density.
Cons: No notch on the back to allow you to hang this to save counterspace. The scale will sense if it's on an uneven surface, which means you might have trouble if, for some strange reason, you want to take it camping with you or something.
Neutral: The buttons are touch sensitive. Some people will like this (it's just like your ipad!), while others may not ("I want my button to MOVE so I know that I pressed it!"). Also, the "lb" subunit is not in decimals, but in "oz". Again, depending upon your preferences, this may be good or bad. Personally, I would rather write "1.5 lb" on my freezer bags instead of "1 lb 8 oz".
Other: The zero/tare button also doubles as a power button. Hold it down for a few seconds if you want to shut it off before it's auto-power off, and save some battery life.
The scale measures okay, but when I measure out my coffee to 7.5 grams. I get varying measure by 0.5 grams when measuring the same exact pile of beans. I can tare out the ramekin I use to hold my beans. I put in a scoop and remove or add beans to get my measure. It will suddenly shift to another measure, for example. 8 to 7 grams and when adding back the beans I removed it will not shift until I put all the beans back. Part of the problem is its rated accuracy is within 0.2 grams. but for most people, this is not a problem. For me it is an annoyance. It just not sensitive enough for my needs.
I love this. Doesn’t seem like you’re gonna get much when you see the price, but when you open that box you’ll be very happy. All packaging materials are recyclable and very easy to open. Very nice aesthetic. Friendly fonts. Genius online user guide also allows you to register your products with Greater Goods for warranty reasons. I make sourdough bread in pretty big batches and this allows me to use my largest bowl. The glass is not flimsy and the post isn’t loose, I don’t feel I have to be extremely gentle with it. The build is very solid, nothing rattles around inside. I kept the cardboard piece to keep the surface level when storing it but it wouldn’t be necessary (unless you’re me). I have several products from Greater Goods, and I will continue to buy and recommend them to you all. I did not get this free from Greater Goods, I just really love this scale! But if I got anything free from them I would not be upset.
Our middle-schooler has a science fair project that requires weighing things accurately. The first kitchen scale we ordered was accurate down to one gram, but that wasn't sufficient. This scale measures down to a half-gram and should be perfect. It is also nice looking and easy to use (my 6th grader figured out how to change the units of measurement himself). And, to the extent this makes a difference to anyone, the packaging is really lovely.
I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality and accuracy of this scale, I bought a second one. This was the only lower price option I could find that provides fractions of grams rather than rounding. The compact size is great and the design allows for a clear view of the large screen even with a super size 10 cup bowl on it. The packaging is awesome and the ethics and generosity of the manufacturer is inspiring.
I didn't know a food scale could work so well. Sturdy and elegant. My favorite feature is how easy it is to change the units from grams to ounces, even after the food has been weighed. Also really like the hold feature, which will keep the scale on for 5 minutes... So many times with my other scale I'd be chopping food or something, come back to find the scale had turned off. Also use as easy to find AAA batteries. Great value, highly recommend.
This has been working with no issues for me for 3 months. I count my calories most days and like to be exact with measurements for that purpose. So far this has been a huge help in actually giving me larger or smaller servings based on weight rather than my poor measuring skills. The battery has not yet needed to be replaced and it is SUPER easy to use. It zeros out quick and is accurate as far as I can tell. It looks nice on my counter and is small enough to not get in the way when it's not being used. I would definitely recommend it.
Looks nice on my counter and works well with lots of conversion options, but it's hard to read. the light blue on blue is just difficult at best. It's compact, but I find that my plate/bowl/etc is always covering the screen making it even harder to read.
You also cannot take the glass off, so its very difficult to clean.
I have just received my new scale. Love the design. I bought this one over all the others I looked at for its simple design, glass platform and backlight. Has exceeded my expectations.
