I just got the product today and I feel ripped off. When I turn the bottle upside down, I noticed there’s missing at least 20ml of the product. With the price like this, it shouldn’t happen. Very disappointed.
So, it has been more than a year since I left the original review and I have found nothing special about this oil. I used to use it on the wet hair before blowdrying my hair but the effect was really minimal in terms of smoothness, silkiness & manageability and didn't seem to repair the damage so I started using as a finishing oil. It works better that way. It gives shine and smoothness. BUT there is a lot of finishing oils on the market that do the same with a more reasonable price tag. I don't think I will purchase Oribe oil again.
[Original review in July 2018] After having used this for a month, I started to believe some of the negative reviews here claiming this wasn't authentic because I didn't see much result. There is so much hype for this hair oil in the beauty industry and it even received some awards. But my chemically treated, damage and dry hair wasn't really in better condition with this oil... So I decided to buy another one from Bloomingdale's, and I figured this oil just wasn't for my hair. I am pretty sure that this is authentic. The sent, the color, the texture, the package - everything seems exactly the same as the one from Bloomingdale's.
My hair is thick and somewhat coarse, and Oribe Gold Lust Oil is definitely not the greatest for my hair type because this oil separates hair strands, which gives hair volume. So this may be good for fine hair.
So here is what Oribe claims this oil is about (and my opinion to it):
-Luxurious lightweight oil - I don't think this is that lightweight. Pretty much the same as regular Moroccan oil (not the light one). So I struggled a bit in the beginning to find the best amount for my hair. My hair feels heavy if it's too much.
-Helps prevent damage and protect hair without weighing hair down - I can't really tell if it prevents damage and protects. I guess it takes more time to really see and feel that.
-Adds high shine and silkiness while detangling and reducing frizz - It does add shine but not to the ends, and the same with silkiness. The ends of my hair is very damaged and dry and that's the part I need help, but no difference in that most important part. I can't say anything about frizziness since I have had straightening perm done, but if they are talking about damage frizziness, it does nothing to it.
-Provides thermal protection and reduces dry time - It's always good to have thermal protection. Regarding the dry time, no change.
-Penetrates the hair shaft to help restore, strengthen and condition even the most damaged locks: My hair is THE "most damage locks" but haven't seen any improvement at least in the past 7 weeks that I have been using this oil.
I have used this product before and noticed an AMAZING difference with my hair. HOWEVER I bought the previous Gold Lust Oil from Oribe directly. This product does not seem to do anything near what the other one I had did and the box has a the UPC marked through which I found very weird. It does smell the same, so Im thinking it is an authentic product- but I am really not sure. Amazon is NOT an authorized reseller of ORIBE products, and you are not getting it for a cheaper price on Amazon than by ordering it from the company directly- so I just wouldnt take the risk.
