The co wash actually works really well for my hair, I was a little nervous it was just going to turn my head into a grease ball, but it's actually perfect the only reason it's got 3 stars when it should be 5 is because I found it at winners for $10
TL;DR #1 (for people who want a "main" cleanser): Best for coarse, dry hair as a main cleanser; not so great for fine hair TL;DR #2 (for people who already have a "main" cleanser AKA alternative use for this cleanser): Really great as a weekly mask-type cleanser to replenish oils and moisture (what I'm going to end up using this for)
Hair type: long (almost at my lower back), fine (0.04mm diameter per strand), straight, oily scalp
I've been attempting to move away from sulfates in my shampoos and silicones in my conditioners for the past year, so I thought I'd give cowashing a try. It worked really well the first month, as in I would have really soft and light hair the next day. However, by the next month (I wash once every two nights, and I go to the gym/sweat 6 times a week) I've found that even the day after washing (within 12 hours) my hair would be limp and greasy-looking. I've tried using conventional sulfate shampoo to remove buildup (I don't use hair products, but just thought I'd try it in case that was the case) once a week, but I think my hair has just gotten used to the hydrating properties in this conditioner because during the next cowash it would look greasy again. I think this would be a great "main" cleanser for people with thicker/coarser/drier hair, but not so much for finer hair. I'm still going to keep it, in the event that my hair becomes more brittle/dry, this cleanser will be a great gentle cleaner that brings moisture back into my hair, but I won't be using it for a while.
PROS: - Smells absolutely delicious - Extremely gentle; doesn't damage my hair - Good price
CONS: - I need to use a lot of conditioner, because there are no silicones so my hair basically ends up absorbing it all the instant I put it on; I use 5-6 pumps for the hairs at the top of my head, and 5-6 pumps for the hair below the ears for a total of 10~12 pumps total in one wash
I was looking for a replacement for Wen. Sadly, this didn’t work for me. Plus, I didn’t like the smell...which I knew was an issue with other reviewers, but I told myself, “who cares about the smell (could it be really that bad?) especially if I’m saving hundreds of dollars per year?” Well, I learned that it does matter when the product doesn’t work well for your hair type & you’re standing wet in a shower, depressed you spent money, & looking for redeeming qualities...smell begins to be an issue. It smells like old coconut conditioner past its prime. My hair is shoulder-length & color-treated. I have an oily scalp & dry ends. This product didn’t clean my scalp well & left my ends dry & tangled. I repurposed it as a shave cream & it was awesome for that purpose. So, since others have been satisfied with this product, I recommend purchasing it & if it doesn’t work for your hair, then you can still use it for shaving your legs. (3 stars for shaving my legs, but deducted one star for it not working on my hair & deducted one star for smell, which was less of an issue when applying to my legs vs my head).
I've purchased this item 3 times, The first time I loved the smell and I still love the what this leaves my hair feeling. The problem I have is this only the first order smelled like coconut the other 2 bottles smell like vanilla... (and not their brand vanilla I've purchased that scent too that has a nice vanilla musk like scent) I don't mind the vanilla scent but would prefer the coconut scent I purchased.
I love all things coconut but this product disappointed me a little. I have curly, fine hair. A LOT of hair, but with fine texture. The worst result is my hair being wispy and flyaway. That's what I got from this product. I am going to try it again and if I get a better result, I will amend this review. If I get the same wispy stuff, I will throw it away. My hair is generally VERY easy to take care of so the wispy result was an unwelcome surprise.
Listen, this isn’t it. It works, but after time it builds up. Vinegar rinsing works to get it right, but why pay this much when a cheap hair rinse like Suave does the same for 3 bucks, twice the amount? I am telling you, that’s all this stuff is. Then rinse with 2 tablespoons of vinegar in a quart of water (Took me six years to figure this out).
I really like this product, firstly. I dislike the vanilla/coconut scent but that’s quite subjective. Upside: this product does what it says it will do and I don’t feel like I have to additionally exfoliate my scalp. Downside, I have to use triple the amount of product advised (30ish pumps) to completely coat my hair and pull my fingers through. I still follow up with a heavy conditioner after. After reading reviews before purchase I had higher hopes. My hair has always been difficult to manage.
I have to wash my hair twice in the shower when I use this so it’s not a fast wash and go it takes time to rinse it all out and stilll felt my hair was oily on the second day of a non hair wash day. Instead of complaining or returning I’m using it as a shave lotion. Great for the legs and moisturizing too :)
They have changed their formula, it looks like they've added Sunflower Oil. The first bottle I ever tried had the word "ZERO" instead of "NO" on it (when referring to additives and sulfates.) That formuladid not contain sunflower oil and was much thicker and more luxurious. I find myself needing to use a lot more of this new version and going through the bottle much quicker. :-(
