To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
We are unable to connect to this device with any of our Miracast/WiDi compatible Lenovo Thinkpad T-series Laptops. We have also attempted with a Surface Pro 2 with no success. All devices have Win10 Pro 1809. Additionally, now that WiDi/Miracast was removed from Android, most phones will also be unable to connect to these devices. Research clearly seems to indicate Miracast and WiDi are essentially shit right now, and you are basically rolling the dice when trying to connect devices together. BEWARE. I would strongly suggest opting for a chromecast (end-user) or an Airtame 2 solution (enterprise) instead of WiDi/Miracast.
Despite an understanding I had from some reviewers, this device does not work with Google Pixel 2 XL. Also wanted the feature where it did not need to use WIFI. This is called WIDI. Understood this was an option but I could not find this feature in the unit I received. Description in setup software made it very clear it did not work with Pixel 2. Still looking for way to cast from my Pixel 2 to any TV without needing WIFI.
I had high hopes for this device as a teacher, since I could walk around the classroom with my Surface and still project to the projector. The device gets crazy hot, which I believe contributes to its early demise. It lasted less than twenty minutes.
After over 6 frustrating hours trying to get this thing to work (two phone calls to ScreenBeam tech support were useless) I found according to both Verizon and Motorola, Google/Android dropped support of Miracast several versions back. Google/Android now only supports its own product called Chromecast. The Verizon Knowledge Base article I found about Miracast support is wrong as is all the advertisement about this and other products claiming support for Miracast in current versions of Google/Android.
Bought this for our 7 year anniversary so we had a backup plan of something to do at camp if the weather kept us inside.
I tested it before we left with my galaxy S7 active and it worked pretty well. There was little to no sound or video latency but the setup was annoying. The micro USB cable was not very stable and did not go into the device the whole way. Any motion on the cable had a good chance to restart it.
Overall I was happy with the purchase, because when it worked it was great.
Until we got to camp and then we got rained out. Plugged this in and tried to connect to nothing but errors. We had movies and shows saved just in case and ended up ruining one of the only vacation we've ever taken together. Packed up two days early and just went home. If it works for you great, but best of luck with that.
I gave it one star because there isn't a lower rating. I have a galaxy s5. Did everything per the directions and it would not connect via..... I searched online, some said to root your phone plus other fixes. I should have returned it but I kept trying. Finally By clearing the cashe memory, reseting the receiver it finally worked. I used it for a few days and it quit working. I tried everything again got it to work than it failed. Got it to work than it failed. Than I took the little piece of junk and threw it in the trash, looking down at it I realized that is where it belongs. How it works is fairly simple, connect to the phone via wi fi. Just like any wireless signal but the creators of this device are to ignorant to do this simple task. Don't buy, beware, stay away. Absolute junk.
Worked just as expected. I'm able to display/mirror directly from the computer onto the TV wirelessly. Win 10 'pewter found it immediately and works without issue. It was just what I was looking for. Update: Sadly, after using for a short time, only a couple of time a month (perhaps 6 uses total), it fails to connect, the TV knows it's there, it knows it's connected to the TV and displays the message saying it won't connect, the 'pewter knows it there, unable to restart or update, whether connected to the TV or directly to the PC... sadly it turns out to be junk!
I have had this for under a month and it has completely fried. It worked for first few weeks kinda. It still would keep disconnecting but I dealt with it. Now is just goes to a black screen. I've went through the trouble shooting and it is fried. They did offer me a return but with how busy I am I haven't got a chance to drop it off. You would have thought that with it being completely fried they would have just given me a refund but no they want the junk back first. Which I guess i understand but I just don't have the time right now especially to wait for it to get there then wait another week for it to show back up on my card. I will just never purchase a device from amazon again and recommend you don't either.
I purchased this device to use when traveling to be able to watch Youtube TV and Netflix. Those don't work on this device, all you get is sound, the picture is blank. Youtube does work but the audio is so out of sync with the video it just sucks. If they put that in the product information it would have saved me half a day and the time I am wasting sending it back. One more thing. It doesn't work with a VPN, It won't connect so I'm guessing your viewing data is being collected.
