I've always been scared of mandolins for obvious reasons, and then my son was given a Masterchef one as a gift-- which I finally got the courage to break out and try-- absolute cluster-- not good. Now I decided with more time at home I wanted to really use a mandolin- and it needs to be sharp and simple. I realise now that handheld is probably more stable and better-- and after analysing all the option decided this classic original was the best way to go. It is so valuable that it's all self-contained. You wash it and snap it back into the stand-- and there is a safety that keeps it locked in until you release it. The blades, the grippy, and hand holder thing, all clip into the stand and make it safe to keep in a convenient easy to reach spot. In summary- super sharp, great stand keeps everything together safely and fun and easy to use. I'm finally using a mandolin and I love it! Highly recommend this specific model as the other Borner model with the handle at the top is not a storage case also if I'm not mistaken.
This is the third V-slicer I have owned in 20yrs, I love it! I only re purchased because after many many years of use, the blades had become somewhat dull. I use this slicer for everything, it makes fine diving and slicing simple, just remember to always, always, always use the guard! My mother and stepmother both sliced fingertips off when NOT using the guard, I have never had that issue as I’ve always used it😂 I would recommend this to anyone who hates slicing and dicing as much as I do!
Love my new mandoline. I saw it advertised on a shopping channel and cheekily bought it from Amazon instead (cheaper). Blades are said to be high quality surgical steel design. So far I have used it for carrots, onions, potatoes and cabbage - very impressed with the results - in fact it was so smooth and quick I had to check underneath to check it had worked! Washing is a doddle - just rinse it under the tap and then put it, still wet, into its own storage container, which is designed with good air flow to dry the device safely (I would not dare to dry it with a cloth as the blades are just so sharp). I would recommend this product, it is very good at doing its job.
With lethally sharp blades (so watch your fingers!) this Mandoline makes short work of a wide range of fruit and vegetables for soups and fruit or vegetable salads. It is easy to operate and has three cutting blades for slices or thick/thin strips. It is very sturdy. I found that I had to practice with it once or twice to get the cutting action smooth and looked at You Tube videos that demonstrated this - really folks, it's a knack to acquire! I got through a mountain of vegetables (the thick julienne strip blade) for a "Jardiniere" soup in no time at all. I also sliced through a kilo of limes to make lime marmalade and achieved slices thinner than I could have done by hand using the thin side of the slicer plate. I can unreservedly recommend this mandoline.
I bought a mandolin years ago and never used it and it disappeared eventually. This however is a fantastic tool. So far I have only thinly sliced tomatoes and a cucumber but the slices are even, thin and superb for my sandwiches. I bought it to julienne carrots and cucumber but especially to finely dice onion which I find a pain to do by hand. Just for practice I diced an onion the other day. I love this machine. Yes, it's expensive but to be honest it's worth spending that bit more for the quality of this item compared to all the others I've seen. The blade is razor sharp, the inserts are good quality and the bonus which I did not expect was the device to safely hold it all together safely. I can thoroughly recommend this. Oh, and the instruction leaflet was comprehensive.
