This is a modern classic. Noel Gallacher writes songs that get right inside your head. The lyrics are clever, amusing and insightful. The tunes are laid back Oasis, and the combination is a collection of songs that you cannot ignore. There is a real mix of styles and tempos, but the more you listen, the more you hear. There are layers upon layers in these songs, and The Dying of the Light is possibly the best track that I have heard for many years. Emotional, melancholic, clever; this is Oasis as you always wanted them to be. Beautiful, utterly beautiful.
It's always a bit touch and go buying a favourite album on vinyl, with the chance of a bad pressing always hovering in the background. But Chasing Yesterday carries no such issues, and the vinyl version sounds absolutely incredible; fresh, crisp sounding instruments and a great vocal mix bring everything together into something that makes me far more likely to play the vinyl than fire up a digital version.
The highlights sit early in the album, with The Heat of the Moment sounding ridiculously good, followed up by The Girl with X-ray Eyes deserving an extra notch on the volume, but the whole album sounds great. There's a distinct lack of dud songs, and no need to want to lift the needle and skip over any tracks while you listen.
Absolutely no regrets buying this, and no difficulty in recommending it to anyone else.
Bought this after hearing 'Riverman' and 'The dying of the light' - both excellent tracks. The whole record sounds like an artist at the top of his game - very solid sound, with great guitar and sax. Vocals just recessed enough to fill the sound but still be intelligible. Several familiar chord progressions here, but still a distinctive record. Recommended.
I took a few listens to fall in love with this album. Now I listen to this album every day from start to finish, never skip a song. I know it's a great ablum when this happens!.I now plan to buy their older albums, the last one I have on order already. I would recommend this album!
