I have had a love hate relationship with this towel for a long time, but I'm finally giving up on it. We bought two of these towels to use to dry off after showering at the gym. We love that they are amazingly compact, they absorb water well, and they dry quickly in the car while at work. The one thing that we didn't love, but could deal with, was the feel. As others have noted these towels feel a lot like suede. When you dry off with them, they don't glide over skin as normal towels do, but they almost feel sticky. They work best if you just lay the towel on your skin and press down (like smoothing out a sheet). We didn't love that feel, but it was alright. The thing that did us in was the smell. If these towels pick up any bad smell, which they seemed to do for us every week, the smell is almost impossible to get out. Washing with detergent in the sink or washer did nothing. I tried soaking in vinegar water, which sometimes worked, but not always. I tried soaking in a little oxy clean, which was also hit or miss. Last weekend I spent far too much time trying to remove the smell and decided we are done with them. I still think these towels may be ok if you keep them away from bad odors & make sure they have air flow to dry out. If I can get the smell out I may save to use as beach towels, but I don't know if that will happen. On a side note, I received about 3 emails for each towel from this company, which I'm not really a fan of, but I did try to ask a question as the email told me I could & never received an answer. I found it a little irritating that I was disrupted with 3 emails promising great service but none when I asked for it.
I love how compact and absorbent this towel is. It doesn't have that gross microfiber feel (you know, where you have even the slightest bit dry hands and it feels so rough against the towel?) and even comes with a handy travel bag. Additionally, it dries superbly fast.
The one drawback? It smells like mothballs. I've washed it and washed it. Still stinks.
I use the 20"x40" version as a towel for my shower after riding in to work. Pro: it folds up really small (smaller than a can of soda) and it dries really fast (especially compared to more traditional wicking towels. The issue is that the towel does not absorb enough liquid. As a result, I can't completely dry off. With a more traditional wicking towel, I would be able to dry off completely.
Basically this is a thin towel. It doesn't absorb as well as a regular cotton towel so you have to go over the area a few times to get most water off, making this less functional than an actual towel. Hence the 3 stars. The nice thing is that this does fold up tiny making it easier to stow away in a gym bag that can become overcrowded. As for the drying, I haven't seen or experienced this fast drying at all. It dries at the same rate as a regular towel BUT it doesn't smell as bad. There is an odor after drying but it's not enough to stink up a gym bag. I'm almost tempted to give it 2 stars but since it folds up small and doesn't smell after drying, 3 stars it remains.
This item could have been perfect until the colored stitching around the edges started to fray after a single use and a total of two weeks time since purchase. The size and material worked well for my traveling needs ut I am sad about the durability issues I am already experiencing. Update- company contacted me about the issues and wanted to make sure my experience was good and issued a replacement at no charge. Great customer service!
Decent towel, definitely compact and easy to pack. I like the mesh bag that comes with it. I didn 't find it as absorbent as other reviewers. There's a certain 'learning curve' in using it, as other reviewers have said, you need to 'pat' yourself dry instead of rubbing it like conventional towels. Seems expensive for what you get, but it is a serviceable towel, especially if you need to pack it. Also, it does dry quickly, which is a huge advantage over cotton towels.
Absorbant but seems to take longer than a terry towel to absorb moisture. Do dry quickly but when wet and getting out of pool, feels cold. I do like how lightweight they ate and hoe little space they take up to be stored. My husband does not like them at all.
I like these towels for how small they roll up and how soft they are, but the stitching is coming undone on all of mine (I have 6 total) and they have been washed as instructed and never put in the dryer. This size is great as a hair towel when traveling and it really helps my hair dry quickly. I lcan't ve that the towel dries very quickly as well.
Hard to describe what this thing is best used for. Bought it for a two week backpacking trip as my only towel. It is compact, lightweight and dries quickly. It was really useful for wiping off sweat and grime from my body. But it isn't that absorbent so it wasn't that easy to use to towel off after washing myself or even to soak and use as a sponge bath.
It's very handy size-wise, but it's not a great towel - cotton towels feel nicer and seem to be doing the job better.
It just feels to me it's harder to dry the skin completely with this one. This can still be great in some situations, e.g. by the lake or on the beach, when there's time to dry out. But e.g. at the gym or after swimming, it makes it tricky to jump into the change of clothing immediately.
