To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This book is about defending and attacking and being bitter and appearing successful to others. This book is for people who care more about their reputations than the quality of their lives. For example, it advises you to end your participation in activities according to how it will best look to others. If you enjoy an activity, tough luck, if you're no longer excelling in it, you're supposed to give it up.
I wanted the Hardback copy but it was sold out, so I bought the paperback copy, I should have paid attention....
I prefer to read tangible books and my bedside lamp is usually sufficient. However, the only way I will be able to read this is with the overhead light on which gives me a headache. Very disappointed and will probably just opt for reading the Kindle version as an uncomplicated alternative.
If you are thinking this book is only about war and generals, you are mistaken. This book is meant to be read by those who play in the company of men... grown up men, shrewd men, experienced men (no offence intended to women).
Military men don't waste time in endless debates, but learn to manage difficult and life-threatening situations with speed, incisiveness, creativity and leadership. In the battle-field you either live or die, and there are no excuses for coming in second place. While at the same time the enemy is doing everything to make sure you fail.
The assorted examples in this book are of a very high order of sophistication and geographical breadth. Good for casual reading but better for gaining valuable experience in dealing with difficult people and situations in life.
I would describe this compact version of the 33 Strategies of war as a very good companion to the 49 Laws of Power. The larger versions of both books are great reading but unkind to tired eyes, while searching carefully for the right solution to a specific dilemma. My only criticism to all of Robert Greens books is the use of Red ink for the marginal based notes and would have preferred Blue. A copy of this book should be issued to all members of the armed services as a modern day 'Survive to Fight' guide. In a society where people question the real motives of their fellow peers, Greens books are starting to become the necessary social skills black book to get ahead in life. As a former member of the armed forces who experiences the cut and thrust world of society, where to be nice to others gets you nowhere I have at times used this indispensable aid as my own counter-counter measures to think, act and get ahead of the individual who tries to cheat and manipulate shortcuts to their own ladder of success. A top star 5 out of 5 rating.
This book is fantastic. I'm specifically utilizing the skills you teach to set goals in my life. I've always been a fan of setting longer term goals; the strategies you teach compound my thoughts as well as offer new insights.
