I read this book many years ago as it was published then as one of S.K.'s earlier novels. I found it fascinating then and now I'm 20 or more years older (wiser ??) I find it an incredibly great book, I only got to read the first 3 books in the series way back then but now am looking very much forward to reading more.
Be patient readers ..... this is a long story with lots of detail, it reminds me of trudging through the works of Charles Dickens which I did, and was glad of it. I love details and long drawn explanations - not "condensed" for more of the impatient readers.
The movie they made was a farce, I was terribly disappointed in it as it skipped through so much so quickly leaving you thinking ..... yeah that was OK (ish). Nothing against the actors who played the characters, it just felt hollowed out and only left the husk of the real story, but that's Hollywood isn't it

Felt like Stephen King was trying to pad the story to match the Lord of The Rings. Unfortunately, Tolken was engaging through his whole story whilst the Dark Tower dragged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read and listen

Took a while to get into but well worth it, not much of a reader so I bought the audible addition, have never read a Stephen King book either.

I noticed I couldn't quite listen to it only, I had to read along with it, but despite that, I really enjoyed it, and definitely going to continue the series to see how it all ends.

5/5 I guess Stephen King is a legend for a reason, and this literary revised version, proves his mastery to the craft of storytelling.

This first part of an eight part series was so fascinating to read. I love the story line and it was a page turner.
So much imagination went into this story. I believe Stephen King is the best story writer of all time.

It's been a while since I've read a S.King novel. The Dark Tower reminded me a what a great storyteller King is. The Dark Tower is far from his finest work but it has left me sufficiently curious to seek out the next book in the series

Fantastic book that does good world building combined with good pacing. Felt progressive all the way through, with no real slower parts.

A very interesting read that paints a very fantastical version of the American/Spaghetti western. It challenged my imagination and made me want to read more.

I had high expectations of this novel; many of my friends loved it but I struggled to get engaged and it was more of chore than I had hoped. Perhaps the movie will add the imagination I so sadly lack.
