My okuma ceymar c-10 reel has a lot of frequent tangles with line getting under the spool and then causing chaos! It was pretty smooth but one session after my reel got stiffer and less smooth. Drag is quite unsmooth with the bail being quite easy to bend! Not impressed
Frankly, I was a bit disappointed with this reel. I own three other Okuma reels which I bought at Dick's for less than this one and have used for several years. They have performed flawlessly. They were Stratus models. I have only used the Ceymar a few times. It is a beautiful reel, but just not as smooth as expected. I bought a Pflueger President at Bass Pro on sale for $30 and fished them side by side, and there was no comparison. The President was smooth as silk, fewer line twists, great drag, good balance. Of course, it is a $60 reel. The most annoying negative about the Ceymar is that the line kept getting caught behind the spool and wrapping around the spindle. I guess if I had to make a recommendation it would be to spend $60 on a President or go down to Dicks and buy a Stratus for $30.
Purchased the c40 to pair with an old 80s silstar rod with the intentions on targeting multiple freshwater species. Was skeptical with the construction at the price point of under 50$. 90% of the reel itself is some type of plastic, doesn't appear to be graphite. The only metal you'll find is the spool itself main shaft roller bearing and gears . The handle is held in place with threads on the handle cap. Although the construction is overall plastic it has a solid feel and seat on the rod. For a cheap budget reel its pretty well constructed for plastic. The drag out of the box is deff there and it pretty up to par with that of higher end reels. I own alot of higher end reels like Penn Abu and Daiwa and have had great success with all of them my entire life. I'm mainly a saltwater angler but do target fresh in the summer months. If youre looking to purchase this reel just keep in mind this reel was intended for freshwater use of small to mid game. You shouldn't be expecting to land any jacks or blues on this guy. For fresh though it's deff a stable platform and should have fun in the later year will leave an update after a few months of field testing.
Overall: not impressed with this reel. It's handle isn't the best thing to try and grab in a fast response situation (I've missed it multiple times when trying to reach for it quickly), the retrieval rate is sluggish, sometimes the bail won't stay open, and it lacks the sensativity my Penn has I can get a feel for how much lure is moving through the water by the feel of reeling in. It's not bad, but I'd definitely say there's better reels out there for the money.
I purchased the c-10 reel about a month ago mainly for pan fish and the shad run that happens in the early spring. It is a solid little reel but after about two weeks it makes a funny sound when i am reeling in line, it still works fine might need some grease, but being that is practically new that bothers me a tad. Would i buy it again probably not, if i where to buy another reel of this size and price point i would just stick to the Pflueger 6920 after owning it for a year its still a great little piece of equipment.
This reel is okay, and it does the job, but for a reel that is generally around $50 it does not reel as smoothly as you should expect. I have lower-cost reels that are significantly smoother. That said, I have not encountered any significant issues with it. 3 stars for an okay mid-level spinning reel.
I have a Lelands ultra light combo (the super cheap green one), but the reel it came with was stiff and not great. I bought this as a replacement and it’s a lot better. It’s smoother and casts much further. I had a little doubt when I opened the box and felt it, but on the rod it does it’s job.
