If you like sawing unnecessarily large holes in your door and adorning them with a cutesy cat-passage that slingshots apart when your pet goes through it, then this is the perfect door for you! The template we received was FAR too wide than the actual cat door itself. We followed instructions to cut carefully, then trace around. We followed by using an exacto-knife along the traced lines. Then, used a jigsaw to complete the cutting. Instantly upon placing the product on our freshly cut door, we could see approx. 1/2” gap between the cut perimeter and the edge of the Kitty Pass. The 3M adhesives come pre-attached to both sides, and have hardly any door-surface to stick to! After messing with the adhesives for 10 min, I decided to add more 3M adhesives around the perimeter of both sides, then reinstalled the door. All appeared fine, until my sphynx cat went through the cat door. The moment he brushed against the side, the whole thing slingshot apart!! He’s an 8 month old HAIRLESS CAT. There was nothing that could have possibly snagged and pulled the sides apart. I can’t imagine how this shoddy engineering would work for a furred animal. I liked this product bc the logo-free clean look. I would much rather have a safe, stable product, logo and all. I’ve lined both sides with wood glue as a last resort, and will clamp it to the door overnight. Please see photos for reference.
The kitty pass doors were fairly easy to install. step 1: cut a curved hole out of your door. Step two assemble the door and stick into place. The second stedifficult because the center strip going between the two sides is just a flat piece of plastic that does not want to stay curved. However, I was evantually able to get it assembled. Two weeks later the kitty pass doors fell off! The tape used to hold them on is not very strong and pushing the doors back on again doesn't really work. Poor design and poor quality product despite it costing more than other kitty doors. I got this one rather than a regular design as it fits below the door panels above.
My cat is not a large cat, pretty small adult in fact, but his door has ruined the fur on her back. We installed coming up from the basement and it has taken all her fur from her back off. I tried lining it with a soft felt and it did not help. Maybe it's different for doors on level floor, but do not recommend for the basement door.
Really disappointed with this product. I'd have no issues with it if it was a quarter the price ($10 - $15), but there is no attention to detail here which I'll get into later.
PROS: -Looks nice. Exactly as pictured and I like the design. -The adhesive tape included was plenty strong to stick this thing to the door without using glue. I really don't know how other reviewers here were having problems, but it seems sturdy to me and my cats have never knocked this thing down yet despite using this door frequently.
CONS: -Too small. That's on me because it's clear from the pictures, but my average-sized cats (~10 lbs) have to scrunch way down and shimmy through this thing because it's so low to the floor. Not ideal for older cats or playful cats that like to exercise by running around. Should have a radius at least an inch wider. Again, this is clear in the pictures so I didn't take off any stars for that, but it's not a good start. -Corners are SHARP. The four little points on the inside-bottom of the frame are not rounded off. They come to a point and feel sharp to the touch. Not great for playful cats that will run through the opening considering how small the opening is in the first place. -Inside edges of frame are not sanded smooth. Cat hair sticks to this thing like it's made of tape. Really annoying but at least this defect won't hurt the cats. -The template included for cutting the shape out of the door is WRONG. Way too big. You need to disregard the template entirely and measure the hole yourself using the cat door itself. They made the template using the middle of the frame pieces instead of where the interior groove actually is. I don't feel very comfortable giving my money to someone who was too lazy to even double-check their product or try installing it using their own instructions before listing it for sale. -The interior piece of plastic or wood or whatever it is that bends around the inside of the frame is not wide enough for your standard door. I installed this on a standard width hollow door, and you can actually see up into the door at the edges because this piece is not wide enough to fit in snugly between the front and back of the cat door. -Instructions are rife with grammatical and spelling errors. How can you be so lazy to not even use spellcheck on instructions for two pieces of wood that you're selling for $40? -The instructions included are printed on the lowest quality paper and settings possible. Another weird quality choice. The installation pictures are basically indiscernible and all but useless. It's always a really great feeling seeing someone trying so hard to save a few pennies at the expense of their customer on something that is massively overpriced in the first place.
I will not be buying another one. I'll update this review if I find a similar quality cat door at a more reasonable price.
The most important part of the product is the template and it is flat out wrong. The template is too big. Your are going to permanently destroy your door and the flimsy cat shaped frame will not even fit on it.
The template for this thing really stinks. DO NOT USE. Use the door itself to make your own. It's too late for me. Using it jacked up the installation of this door. The little spacer won't stay in. Also use your own extra adhesive. OR even better. Buy a different door. It's not THAT cute.
This unfortunately was not worth the price. I kept up the front side with the cat ears bc it does look cute. However the inside strip and the back side that is supposed to be the tail came off hours after install. The pieces are cheap and the adhesive that comes on this is very poor and doesn’t do the job. If you are willing to cut a hole in your door for your fur friend. I’d personally pick a different product.
