Hair type: very fine, coloured, shoulder-length, just look at it and it tangles, prone to greasiness and needs washing daily.
I had been toying with the idea of trying Wen through QVC but couldn't justify the price tag as I didn't need all the extras that came with the offer, and it had variable reviews. I then saw the Palmers Olive Oil Co-Wash and was persuaded by the other reviewers with a similar hair type to mine, but slightly dissuaded by some of the reviews of its fragrance. Then I found this coconut version and promptly ordered it.
The fragrance was very sweet to start off with but I no longer notice that and I can't really detect any fragrance on my hair.
I used 10 pumps on my first wash, and have stuck with that as I'm thrilled with the results, and my hair condition has improved. It's so much easier to get a brush through it after washing and when I've walked the dog (usually ends up in knots). It does feel thicker, silky and I love running my fingers through it now. Some other reviewers have said the olive oil one weighs their hair down; the only time I had a problem is when I didn't rinse it out properly. It seems a little less greasy at the end of the day to the extent that I can get away with a dry shampoo (bog standard Batiste) the next day if I'm super pressed for time (I would not have been able to get away with that before), and without having to restyle (my hair only does dead straight, or normally if I've slept on it, the dragged through a hedge look).
I still use a tiny bit of hair oil on the ends sometimes, less than before, and not every day. I can't imagine going back to normal shampoo and conditioner; I never got these results with premium products or even on leaving the salon! My hair is very happy!
I'm constantly on the look out for a product which won't weigh my super fine hair down. This delivers! It feels odd that it doesn't lather, but don't let that perturb you. I have chin length dyed blonde hair, with natural untouched roots that get greasy daily. My hair feels clean and fresh after use & doesn't have a single tangle. I personally use 3 pumps for each area of my hair (front hairline, left & right of it, bottom of hairline then upon my crown) so it's evenly distributed without overloading a single area (if you have fine hair you know less is more!) so a total of 15 pumps for me.
If you have fine hair DO wash it everyday. I tried to persevere with doing so every other day & found I felt greasy & unattractive so to me that was pointless. It's fine to wash it daily, especially using this product. I often give my hair a break by leaving it to dry naturally or just drying the hair that frames my face.
DO BLOW DRY IT UPSIDE DOWN until 80% dry then style with a brush whilst drying until 100% dry. Or use a 'BaByliss New Big Hair' tool after 80% drying & just lightly brush it after use (to finish but not flatten it) for amazing lift! Persevere with the tool, I was unsure at first but it's great once you get the hang of it.
This product is a step in the right direction away from sulphates & detergents. However this has silicone in it, so not too good for the hair. I am familiar with the process of using a non-lathering cleanser, so l made sure that my fine, coloured hair was thoroughly coated and well rinsed. This produced a reasonable result in the immediate aftermath, but the next day my hair was limp and flat. I tried it a few times to make sure l was giving it a decent chance, but concluded that it was not suitable for my hair. I think it may be more useful for thicker hair that needs some taming.
This can take some getting used to if you've always used shampoo before. I think at first I used way too much of this, not spreading it over my hair enough. You do need to read the instructions and follow them. If you do, you should get the amounts right. I have dyed my hair, stripped it and bleached it. My hair should really be like straw but, my hairdresser comments on how it is in such good condition. I put it down to using cowash. If you use too much, it will leave you hair feeling heavy. If you don't rinse it enough, it might lead to it feeling greasy but, if you do as directed and rinse it well, it leaves your hair in real condition. If I ever run out and use shampoo, my hair feels all 'stripped' - like all the oils and goodness have been torn out of it. Once you get used to it, the lack of suds won't bother you and your hair will thank you!!!!
I have colour and heat treated hair that is also going grey and getting courser. On top of this the hairdresser was a bit too enthusiastic with my highlights list time I went to get it done and I had to have about 4 inches cut off because it was very broken 😡. I started using this because shampoo (i’ve tried many quality ones such as Kerastase to no avail) dries out my hair and I couldn’t be doing the not washing your hair at all thing! I didn’t expect this to leave my hair feeling that clean and expected a certain amount of lank greasy feel after a couple of days. But on the contrary my hair feels lovely clean and smooth. And what’s more impressive is that it’s now improving the overall condition too. I had to have my hair colour treated again today and was a little scared that it would take me back to square one and leave me fluffy and dry again, but it seems to be much better now. I will be continuing to buy this and i’m Looking forward to the first summer that my hair doesn’t look like straw! Highly recommended 🥰
This stuff is a great addition to your normal shampoo and conditioner.
I have to wash my hair quite regularly, but I now use this twice or three times between washes. That means that I generally only have to use shampoo once or twice a week, which I think is suiting my hair better.
I think one important thing to note is that not everyone can use this as their only hair cleaning product. For me, I need shampoo at least once a week to keep feeling fresh and avoid any kind of buildup.
I'm looking forward to trying the olive oil version as well.
I have very fine, thin, frizzy coloured hair, although quite a lot of it. My scalp has been driving me crazy, I have sensitive skin and my hair looked like straw. I can honestly say that with the use of a scalp brush this really seems to work for me ( have been using for a couple of weeks). I wash my hair daily, it smells nice, feels clean and is much softer and considerably less frizzy. I also notice far less shedding when combing through after washing. It is not a wonder product, but certainly has made some noticeable difference (my husband even noticed!). I'm going to try the olive oil version next.
Please note this is a genuine review - I rarely review and usually only if something is bad!
Love this!! I have 2b/3a (mixed race hair )and it works well! Been using for several weeks now and used it to wash my hair everyday during the inversion technique after putting oil in it everyday and my hair didn't dry out! Great in my children's Afro hair also! A must buy, very happy ive converted to co washing!
This is good for the price - especially when compared to other, more expensive Cleansing Conditioners. Would definitely buy again. Edited - went to purchase again but the price has gone up from around £11 to £50!!?? Needless to say will NOT now be buying again! Star rating now 1 due to the price hike.
