The unit stopped working after 3 weeks, the lid would not open, it open slightly and then close itself instead of fully opening. The customer service sent a new one which developed the same fault after just one week. I opened one of the unit to find that the screw that attach the opening to the motor was loose. I screwed it back and it started working again for a few days until the screw became loose again. The issue is that the motor does not stop when the lid is fully opened, it continue a little bit longer, which either loosen the screw or damage the plastic attachment. The customer service responded that it was a known issue for which they don’t have a solution yet... They sent me a microchip feeder instead. We had problem with this one too, it turned out that it is an interference from our solar inverter that stops the microchip detection. We relocated it and it has been working for a couple of months now. So top mark for the customer service but none for this product!
As many people have written before me, the idea of this bowl is amazing but performance is very poor. Ordered the first one which at first worked very well and my cat got the idea straight away without training mode. After one week it started closing while my cat was still eating making her very confused. What ever I did nothing helped; cleaning, battery changing, restarting. Then it started sometimes freezing and not opening at all. After few more days it started rapidly closing after every 10 seconds while my cat was still eating and I ended up taking the inner bowl out just so my cat could eat in peace. Amazon quickly sent a replacement which had exactly the same fault from the start. It ignored any movements and was closing after every 10 seconds while me and my cat both were still actively moving around the sensors. Sent it back for refund. It is not fit for the purpose. One star for an amazing idea though and excellent Amazon customer service.
With the current heat I wanted to get something to help keep the flies off of my cats food. I already had a microchip reader version for the other cat bowl, and knew they were amazing, but didn't think I needed the microchip feature this time.
Straight away, from first use out of training mode my little black cat would be eating and the lid would close on her. It wouldn't open back up when she was near it and it was very temperamental when I would try to get it to open. It did this many times and while I could eventually get it to open up my cat seemed to constantly struggle and would keep begging for food because she couldn't get in to it. I ended up having to take the food out so she could eat it. It was a really disappointing purchase.
I am sending it back as it is not fit for purpose. I am going to get another microchip sure feeder. even though it is more pricy I haven't had any problems with it and it works really well.
I am still in dispute with this product! It just keeps closing on my cat when she is eating from it ! The suppliers have sent me another one to try ! It’s no better! If the cat eats from the front the sensor doesn’t pick her up, if she eats from the sides the smaller sensors pick her up! I have put a white collar on her but doesn’t make any difference. The suppliers told us it was because she’s a black cat!! But when you look at their advert it shows a black cat eating from it! The company I have been dealing with is Sure Petcare! But bought it through Amazon!
This is a great idea to keep food fresh and flies away - if your cat doesn't have a microchip. However mine stopped working with grinding gears after about a month. I complained to the manufacturer and they sent a replacement. That failed in the same way after a month too. I gave up at that point. I would give this product a minus rating if I could because I think the manufacturer knows that it is rubbish but they are still selling them to unsuspecting buyers.
If you like the idea I would recommend getting the more expensive SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder. I bought one of these at the same time for my other cat and it has worked perfectly for well over a year now.
Unfortunately the sensors at the front don't seem to detect the presence of an object consistently (in contrast to the side ones, which are fine).
I was careful to follow the guidance regarding nearby objects and "calibrated" the bowl. But no good .. either it didn't detect my cat (or my foot, for testing) or, if it did open, the lid closed on my cat while he was still eating.
I returned the first one for a replacement but the second one behaved exactly the same. Shame, because the design is otherwise good.
in this hot weather we couldn't leave wet cat food down as our cat doesn't eat it all in one go. The mechanism works reasonably quickly and he got the idea on the first try without using the training mode. Keeps smell down and flies away. Update Had it 7 months and no longer works. After 2 lots of fresh batteries red light still flashed and then lid just stays open. Not recommended
This has been good for a couple of years. I actually have two, for two cats. But in the last couple of weeks the lid on one of them stopped opening or closing even though you could hear it was detecting motion. I changed the batteries but that didn't work. I then unscrewed the base and made sure the mechanism was as it should be. Still no luck. So the unit is now useless, currently using without a lid (just as well there are no flies at this time of year) simply because my cat needs familiarity and is used to this bowl. Disappointed that I might have to buy a new one after just two years, they're not cheap and I certainly hadn't counted on needing to replace it so frequently.
