Having owned as a professional chef for years the classic light beige Benriner slicer I found I needed the Super Size, the next size up from standard so I can cut larger fruit and vegetables such as tomato and eggplant that are larger in width than the standard slicer can cut
So I purchased what I thought was the Super but mistakenly ordered the Jumbo.
This is the biggest in the range, it doesn't come with any teeth for cutting julienne strips
It just slices....
Instead of returning it, I realised it would be very useful for certain tasks in the kitchen which it found out to be. So I kept it On all 3 models the finger guards new design is absolutely perfect!
Long story short I have now ended up with all 3 models of the new design in white
Once again another Amazon 5 Star 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 product! Great Price, Great Quality and Supersonic Delivery Speed!! 🕺👨🍳👍☺️
I've gone through three different slicers before settling on the Benriner. No doubt the best I've had yet. The blade is like a razor and the infinitely adjustable depth can be set as fine as you want. Scary as hell to use - the food holder/ guide is quite small which makes it tricky sometimes and there's a large gap in front of the blade to allow for the cross slice blades to slot in. Everything comes apart, including the ability to remove the blade. Not perfect, but the best I've come across by a long way.
The mandoline is a pleasure to use. I previously bought a cheap one and really there is no comparison. I was surprised by how well the additional julienne tool works. Just be very careful when using it, it's very VERY sharp. The build quality is impressive, it's plastic but feels very sturdy and solid.
Made my first sauerkraut with my new Benriner and extremely happy with the results. I did a lot of research before deciding on this mandolin, it was worth the time, it is a professional tool made to last and a pleasure to use.
The blades are sharp, so they do a decent job at cutting. Not sure how long it will take until the julienne blades will become blunt. The slicer blade can be sharpened, as it comes out. But since the blade is mounted in the mandolin with a screw, there are litlle spaces both on the front and back where the food goes in and are impossible to clean. One needs to use a tooth pick and a special brush to take the stuff out. I'm worried that professional kitchens won't even bother. Anyway, the time spent cleaning can easily be used for slicing with a knife. Terrible design!
I first bought a benriner classic 25 years ago. It was better than many other makes at delivering the fine cut veg I wanted and was still going strong five years ago when my husband and I opened a coffee shop. We used it many times daily (home made coleslaw!) and when it eventually gave out, had no hesitation in replacing it. We sold our shop a while back and lost it in the process. Have been meaning to buy a replacement since then - have just ordered the newer version and am very happy. It has some useful new features (non-slip grip on the base, hook for resting on bowls etc) that are great - wish I’d had them on my old ones. A good, reliable cutter that will give you fine shards of veg. Beware, it is very sharp and you can seriously injure yourself if you don’t use it carefully. The veg holder is a good idea, but we found it much easier and safer to use a non-cut glove protector. Although you do still need to be careful even then. Can be tricky to clean the channels for the blades, but everything comes apart and for the harder to reach places we used a purpose-bought toothbrush to get in the nooks. All round, I absolutely recommend this.
