Sorry to say I was disappointed in this wiring. The casing is high quality and it comes pre tinned which is nice, but the conductor is just too fragile. If you plan on moving anything around after soldering you risk having the wire snap from metal fatigue. I counted 3-4 bends and then snap. I had to re-do my project with some old wire I had laying around.
This is, hands-down, the best guitar wire, there is. I really like the push back shielding, as it's so much more humane than stripping plastic shielding... easier on your fingers, too, and no chance of cutting myself (as I often use x-acto to trim the shielding..... but no more, due to the push back!!) it also solders, very nice and clean, and I like to put a little 'hook' in the wire, before attaching it to the lugs. This wire can also be manipulated and angled, to make a nice, neat harness, in my guitar... not a big birds nest.... The three colors are great, too!
I love this stuff! I MUCh prefer cloth-covered to your standard plastic-coated wire. No need to mess with stripping and tinning the wire -- push back the cloth and you'll see that this is already tinned for you. Of course, as long as the wire is unbroken and your connections are well soldered, the is ostensibly no difference once installed. But it's well worth a couple of extra bucks to save the time and effort (as mentioned above) and, if you have big hands like I do, the greater ease of soldering good, clean connections (as well as the lack of headaches and loud profanity that seems to be inherent when soldering with cheap, thin, plastic-coated wire) will make you enjoy working on guitars again. I will absolutely be ordering more of this when my supply begins to dwindle.
Nice! This stuff is awesome. Feels thick and durable, the cloth pushes back nice and easy, and I just love that it’s pre-tinned. Saves a bunch of time and irritation for sure. I took out all the old cheap plastic wiring from my Squier Tele and replaced it with this stuff and it made the typically frustrating (for me at least) wiring process quite a bit smoother. Just be aware of your colors (Black is ground, White is hot) and you should be good. Plus I love the vintage, higher quality look it provides.
I rewired 2 guitars with this wire and I can tell you that you will not find a better vintage style of wire with this quality. I wired up a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Gibson SG with this wire from the switch to the pots and the output jack as well. I also used the skin to cover my cap legs! Super great sound but I can't say it is the wire of course. I will def use this for all future rewires!
This is literally the easiest wire I have ever worked with. You don't even have to strip it away, just cut it with scissors and you can pull back the insulation with you fingers! I used this to splice some wires on my strat that were way too short, and to redo my ground wire. It is pre tinned so it is a little harder to twist it together and solder but I was able to pull it off and I could hide the splice by simply pulling the insulation back over the splice! I will definitely purchase this again if I ever have to do more guitar wiring.
