I decided to wait to review. I’ve had this wind chime for almost a year. It’s attractive & seems decently made. The center piece has mildewed a bit. But the reason for my 1 star review is that it takes GALE FORCE winds to move this thing. I have it hung directly on a stationary hook, no extenders. I followed all of the directions. I changed out the sail. I’ve tried adjusting the height of the center clacker. I’ve tried different locations. The reason it’s called a chime for people who like their neighbors is that your neighbors will never hear it & you won’t either. It’s purely decorative unless a storm is whipping up. My next step is to try to get my hubby to fashion a larger curved aluminum sail for it & see if that does anything. Disappointing, because when it actually chimes (ie, when I swing the sail with my hand) it had beautiful tone. I bought this to replace a Woodstock chime that finally fell apart after a decade & this had not been a successful replacement. Very disappointing. I recommend you buy a real Woodstock chime instead.
I have hung two of the Wailuas. They chime beautifully ONLY in a strong wind or if I push the wind catcher with my hand. I've tried both sizes of wind catchers, to no avail. The tubes and wind catchers sway in a light breeze but the clappers don't reach the tubes, so no sound. I've been advised by the customer service rep to "play with the suspension platform or that clapper" (I have no idea how to go about this), or alternatively "send them back for a refund." I've asked for larger clappers so they can reach the tubes, but they've told me that each wind chime is custom made and they don't have spare parts. If everything is custom, I would expect them to be able to make and send me larger clappers. I'm going to try to make lighter wind catchers, but my experience is one of complete and utter disappointment.....AND no customer service phone number, so no one to have a conversation with, only several frustrating emails with NO resolution.
I do not like the fact that even though they were in a place that got wind the wooden piece that was supposed to make them chime did not hit the chimes. They only was the will chime is when I attached an aluminium pie plate to the striker so it would catch the wind. Looks tacky but at least now the chime. Won' t waste money with this manufacturer again.
Top piece that’s bamboo is split half way across, needs lots of wind to get a chime. I don’t think this is well made, and will last long because of split. Not worth my time sending back, and definitely don’t want another.
one of the strings attached to chime was broke, loved the picture of the first one so bought another thinking i was getting a nice set, but decided today to hang both sets, this one has a broke string on one of the chimes, really disappointing,
