Quite good but I wish the space to fit the zucchini was longer. You can't fit a whole one, so it has to be cut in half. The problem with that is that the design of the machine means that there's always a 1.5cm thickness disc of zucchini left after the spiralising. It means you end up with quite a few zucchini discs to manually chop up / julienne, or a lot of zucchini which goes in the bin. The machine otherwise works pretty well -- though it's hard to spiralise a zucchini if it has a bend in it, because it doesn't grip on to the spike at the cutter-end properly.
I have tried and returned the Oxo and Paderno spiralizers. They wobble and are a daring feat in trying to stabilize, slice and prep vegetables. I don't know why they get such high ratings. I kept hoping someone would come up with something better. Finally after months of searching I tried this PL8 thing and it is a genius and a brilliance in design! It is so easy to grab, use, rinse and put away. It's made of great quality plastic and gripping material. The rotating slicing blade should be the new standard for these spiralizing tools. A simple prepping pleasure.
I LOVE this spiralizer. My first spiralizer was a Paderno and while I liked it for some things, I just got frustrated trying to use with things like beets, and I always seemed to have trouble with my vegetables "wobbling" when I was turning them. This one is great in so many ways, as others have commented. I really like that it is one unit and that there is no blade switching involved. What sold me on it was the fact that you exert downward pressure on the items you are spiralizing, as opposed to SIDEward pressure with the Paderno. Slicing goes so much faster and it is so much easier to use than the Paderno. I also like the fact that both the unit and the vegetables stay put. No longer is the unit sliding around because the suction cups have let loose, and no longer are my cucumbers popping off the unit because of the awkward sideward pressure. (I hope that makes sense.) So far I have only used it for beets and zucchini. It did a great job on both. I had a huge mess trying to do beets on the Paderno. Perhaps it was operator error, but the PL8 works much better for me. It was a little tricky getting the prongs into the beet, but I just made a little slice on the end of the beet and that helped.
I only have one complaint that keeps me from giving it 5 stars and that is that the slicing blade is always exposed so you have to be very careful when washing it or just grabbing it from the cabinet.
My older green and white model was great and I wanted to order 4 for gifts but the only ones were the white and grey which was the improved safety with a cover over the blades. The cover was so tight that I cut myself on a blade when the cover finally snapped open. I found the older model elsewhere. because I didn't want to give these as a gift. I don't feel the safety improvement was an improvement. So I'm returning the 4 that I bought and wish a refund. I also find it hard to get the grips to pierce a red beet or a similar hard vegetable and hold it securely. It's great for cucumber ribbons! Thank you. I still love Amazon.
