These were initially so frustrating to install, after about 2 I realized there had to be an easier way. I pre-drilled a tiny hole down the path where I would install the LED lights about every 2ft and then was able to attached these with so much more ease. I also screwed them about 3/4 of the way in, then went back and fed the LED lights through them and tightened them up. Worked much better and I was less frustrated.
After reading several reviews on these clips I honestly thought I had found the solution to my LED light strips falling. Unfortunately, these clips will just swivel and allow the light strip to fall. The screws included are extremely fragile and will break. For reference purposes, I am trying to install my LED light strips in a bedroom. I have tried several different methods to stick the lights such as double sided mounting tape, double sided super sticky tape but NOTHING has worked. I really had my hopes that these clips would be the solution but no. They may work for others but not for my needs.
These didn't work well for my project. Part of the fault was mine: I didn't realize that the light strip tape that I ordered was literally paper-thin, so these clips had no ability to hold the tape flat. I had to turn it around so the tongue on the opposite end from the clip (the right side of the photo of the product) was holding the tape down.
In fact, in the third photo on the listing, showing a top view of two clips "holding down" a bit of light tape, now that I'm looking at the picture again, I can see that those clips aren't even touching the tape! The tape is 8mm-10mm wide; the clips have a span of 11mm! These would only work well with encapsulated strip lights (where the tape is covered in a plastic sheath of some kind).
But I rated it low for a different reason. I actually was able to use these clips to hold down some 18/2 thermostat wire as part of the same project - well, SORT OF hold it down.
The plastic is fairly flexible - almost bendable, and not at all rigid. Just a hair too much pressure and it permanently deforms or breaks. So it really cannot apply much hold-down force. Imagine the difference between a rigid plastic fork or knife - what I was expecting - and the plastic a milk jug is made from - what I got. As a result, in more than a few places I had to apply several adjacent clips to apply enough force to keep the wire under control.
Also, the provided screws are very weak. I was screwing these into maple, and I had perhaps six or more screw heads simply snap off just as I began to snug up the screws to keep the clip from rotating.
We LOVE these Lights!! I bought them to go around the outside of my daughters Vapor Shoppe in Eastman, GA.. You can see them from 2 1/2 blocks away!!! They are Neon Bright Blue and Beautiful!! Everybody knows where her store is located, because of these Beautiful Lights, lol In her advertisements, she always adds....... And We Will Leave The Blue Light On For Ya!! She and her customers Love Them.... They were very Easy to put up. I bought some different clips to put them up, but the enclosed clips worked good also. I used both, because I put one about every 15 inches... These lights hold their Shape and Look Perfectly Straight when your done. They easily bend and go around post. We hung them in May, 6 months ago and haven't had any problems at all. I will be buying some more, for my own store. My son paid $400 for the lights we hung at our store, about the same time and they quit working about a month ago!!! I'm going to replace them with these. These Are Awesome!!!! The reason I am writing this review tonight, is because my daughter called and asked where i bought her lights? She wants to run some on the inside of her store. Great Idea! Thank You... Thank You For A Great Quality Product!!! Cathy Summerlin
Worked well and the screws provided were the correct size for the clip. One tip: Depending on your project specifics, consider the 8mm or other version especially if it is more shallow that this one. The 10mm clip fit over my 10mm LED strip and convex rubber coating but it left a tiny space between the rubber of the LED strip and the clip. As a result the clip will cradle the strip if the strip is not adhered to the cabinet or if its adhesive fails but the clip does not press or hold the strip against the cabinet bottom. I ended up offsetting the clip so that the tip is centered on the light strip. Not ideal but it maintains contact between the strip and the cabinet.
Great price. I used them for under-cabinet lighting with
xtf2015 Led Strip Lighting 5Meter 16.4ft Waterproof Flexible Color Changing RGB SMD5050 300 LEDs Light Strip Kit + 44 Key Remote Controller + 12V 5A Power Supply
. Fit well. I did have to mount the strip to the front vertical lip of the cabinets because the bottom shelf was too thin for the screws.
I tried to use a 1/16" bit (1.59 mm) to pre-drill the screw holes and twisted off several screw heads. I switched to a 5/64" bit (1.98 mm) and had no further trouble. I also used two screws to mount the LED controller in the link above. None of the plastic pieces broke, even when I twisted them into position and squeezed the LED strip into place.
Holds an LED strip light perfectly. The plastic is a little flexible but that is a good thing. For my purpose, I'm using 2 of the clips fastened together to hold a strip on my DJ façade. Since I am mounting/unmounting the strip at every event, I needed something that was flexible to slip the lights between the clips but strong enough to take the abuse of such mobile treatment. I have no doubt that this will work fine in a permanent setting and since it is clear, will virtually be unnoticed.
Really like them once I used them. At first I assumed they were going to be weak and flimsy and I was proved wrong and am so happy I was! I am using them to hold up an outdoor low voltage cable to multiply linked LED lighting which is them controlled to turn on/off by a infrared sensor.
These clips work really well, I used them to fasten LED tape to my house. The biggest issue is that like most products that ship with screws, the bundled screws are terrible. They strip out really easily, and in some cases the screw heads twist off. I purchased some standard pan head M6 self tapping screws from my local hardware store to use with the clips and that solution worked great.
