UPDATE 1/20/18 - Downgrading my rating from the original post. These lights are really great and we only use them for 1-2 hours per day. But the lights go through batteries like crazy! After about 1.5 to 2 weeks, the batteries are dead. These end up being extremely expensive since I have to buy 18 batteries each time these lights go out. I was purchasing Energizer Batteries and also tried Duracell - the ones that claim to last the longest. I even tried rechargeable batteries to help lower costs but those were even worse since they don’t hold as much charge as fresh new batteries. These are probably good if you’re using them for a few minute each night.
So far these lights are pretty awesome. We needed a temporary solution for our dining room while our house was under renovations. These worked out fabulously! There is one light that isn’t working very well - it’s not connecting to the remote. It works fine if you push it. Buying a second set as a replacement if any of the current ones fail. You can see the one light that didn’t turn on with the remote. These lights are on the 100% setting. Not bad!
I bought them to mount under a cabinet in my kitchen that tends to be dark (depending on time of day). I liked that they looked easy to install, and wanted to use the included stickers instead of the included screws (I'm NOT going to lie on my kitchen counter trying to put screws into the cabinet above me). I cleaned the cabinet surface as instructed, stuck 3 lights on the cleaned wood surface, and in about 30-60 seconds, two of the lights came off, and while trying to replace them, the 3rd light fell off. Fortunately I had some 3M self-adhesive foam stickers and finally was able to get the lights to stick...until about 10 minutes later, I gently tapped the lights to turn them on, and 2 of them fell down again. More adhesive stickers have helped keep the lights in place now, but I'm very cautious when tapping them on/off. One problem more or less solved. The other problem is that they are not nearly as bright as I'd expected, and not nearly as bright as other LED lights I've used in other locations. So, overall, a disappointment.
Bought 2 sets of these for our closets and under the kitchen cabinets; total fail lol. All the ones in the closets fell off within 2days using the stick adhesive that came with it whike the ones under the cabinets are still in tact but all the batteries that came in the pack died the next day. I really liked this product because it has the cute lil remote and such but now i have to replace batteries sooner than i thought I would have to. I would've felt alot better if batteries weren't accompanied with product than having batteries came and was no good. Still an ok product will be using the strips from a command hook to replace the adhesive stickies at the back. I think velcro would be better.
Very strange. I received basically a plastic garbage bag with 7 lights in it, 20 batteries (over 1/2 were already dead-I have a battery tester) 6 screws (so enough for 3 lights) also just thrown in the big garbage bag, no separate bag AND no tape as others described for installation. 3 lights had yellowing tape stuck all over them, I spent 20 minutes with goo-be-gone wiping that off. When I finally make it to the store to buy screws, working batteries and tape I hope these are better than the first impression. I might just return them as I am a little off put by the delivery and condition, have some pride in your items!
These arrived today and I was disappointed upon opening the package and realizing that the remote is not RF like I assumed, but is IR, like your TV remote, meaning it can only be operated line of sight and needs to be pointed directly at the light(s). This is not suitable for my application as I have cabinets on both sides of my kitchen and one of the sides wraps around in an “L” shape, requiring me to turn the lights on and off in two and sometimes three separate sections. It does not say anywhere in the description that the remote is IR and the illustrations (not photos of the actual remote) neglect to show the IR emitter that sticks out the end of the remote. An actual photo would have revealed the fact that this system operates on IR, so I’ve included one with this review. Also, I know color balance on a professional level and these lights are not 3000k as stated (warm white), they are closer to 6500k, a very neutral white. Also they are not bright like a halogen...bright enough to work by at night, but not much more. They do their job but I’m giving 2 stars because the description is not accurate.
These lights are wonderful for adding to place you would like to avoid hard wiring, but in all honesty, the battery life makes you wish you had just run wiring.
The light they provide is bright and neutral, but after just a month or two of having them around, the lights are running out of battery. I would estimate they last about 6 hours of total runtime, and considering how many batteries they use, that's not great.
Some people have suggested that the sensor uses battery while 'waiting' to hear from the remote control. That would make more sense, as the batteries themselves should be able to provide much longer life for the small amount of electricity needed to power them.
In a pinch, these are great, but as a long term solution they are not worth it.
Updated review after 3 months of use. Hue is inconsistent between sets, out of 3 sets only 2 sets match and they’re not the bright white like I wanted. Also, they go through batteries like crazy. Each one takes 3 AA batteries and they’ll last maybe a week. Even when the lights aren’t on the batteries drain. Very frustrating. I will say they’re handy in dark spaces like under sinks and such but that’s about all. I wouldn’t recommend them.
Original review: I ordered these for use under my kitchen cabinets until I could get new cabinets/lights. I loved them so much I ordered a second set. The second set came and they’re “soft white” rather than the bright white like the first set. There’s no option to choose the different styles so I’m nervous to try and order another bright white set and get stuck with more soft white. Other than that inconsistency, the lights are very easy to install and use with the remote. The battery life is very low, I just installed them Saturday afternoon and they’re already considerably darker on Tuesday evening after only being on maybe 30 hours total.
The lights were extremely easy to install and the remotes works well, but it drains batteries so fast! The original batteries it came with were dead within a couple weeks with only about an hour or so of use a day, I thought maybe it was just the cheap batteries it came with so I changed them out with some high end batteries and same result. Batteries dying after very minimal use. And it requires A LOT of batteries to change them all out (3 per light).
I bought these puck lights to install in a metal display cabinet. The point was to illuminate objects on the cabinet's shelves. I hung them at the top and underneath the shelves in order for them to cast light on the shelf below. Installation went well, I thought, but when I came back to the cabinet a few days later (it's in my garage), every single light had fallen from where I installed it. The adhesive on the bottom of the puck light failed to hold. I thought perhaps I hadn't pressed them hard enough against the metal when I installed them, so I tried again pressing harder. The next day all again had fallen. So, my conclusion: Lousy glue that won't hold in my particular installation. I will try alternative installations (on the tops of the shelves themselves, on the metal sides of the cabinet) to see if that makes a difference, but, bottom line, my preferred installation has not worked. This is most irritating, hence the two star rating. I would not buy this product again unless it was clear to me the adhesive would stick and stay where I put it. I should note that screws are provided for installation in wood and drywall. but that doesn't help me.
