What can I say nooooooo it over its finished I am so glad I took a chance with this I have read his other books and at first I was unsure about this set but so glad I did risk it brilliant set of books story gets better and better with each new book can't put it down will so miss this series I do hope there will be others like it from him via you like a good action fun love horror and so on check this series out you won't be disappointed worth every penny they was and I will miss them so much now I have to find something else to read to wait for books from him what you waiting for get reading a fantastic set of books of great stories that will leave you wanting more each time they end
One of the best fantasy series I've ever read - it certainly gives George Martin a run for his money (eventually gave up on the Game of Thrones series, even though it's beautifullly written the plot develops at a dead snail's pace after the first 3-4 books). The Alera world is fully realised, the writing is evocative, and tension is maintained throughout. Characters are given full dimension and can be observed developing thoughout the series - even the alien Vord queen - for whom ultimately I felt quite sad. I just wanted to go on and on reading and so my only disappointment was reaching the end of this wonderful series. At least there was (and I hope I don't give too much away here!) a happy ending, so my sadness at finishing was partially temepered by this.
An absolutely fantastic series, couldn’t put them down. The best series I have read in a long time. Very fast paced with a lot of action. Great characters, that grew on you as you got to know them and grew with each book. Thoroughly recommend them. Feeling deflated now as whatever I choose to read next has to live up to them.
Pretty much read all six books back to back in the space of two weeks would regard myself as. A veteran SF and fantasy reader and can’t describe the pleasure when you stumble across a new series in the genre that keeps you riveted across six volumes - characters are brilliant and the development of Tavi is nothing short I inspired!
I read that Jim butcher was challenged to write a credible story incorporating Romans and Pokemon. He did it in spades - I’m gutted it’s finished!!
I initially bought all these books in Kindle but I will be buying the paper versions in the near future- too good to not be sitting on my book shelves!!
I’m a big fan of Jim’s work, this series especially as it’s just so absorbing. Most loose ends are neatly tied up, the story concludes pretty much as you’d expect/hope but this by no means takes from the experience of reading it.
My only gripe is that there’s isn’t any sequels (yet) as I really want to know what happens in Canea, are the Canim, Marat, Icemen and Algerans still allied? What’s about Tavi’s child?
I read lots and lots of books, but Jim Butcher makes me come back for more every time. If you have read the rest of the series you won't be disappointed with this one. If you haven't read the series - go out and get them.
The story keeps moving on ,and brining you along with it, characters are realistic, with flaws and good points, and writing is great as in all Jim Butcher books.
