Revised Review- Cable is extremely cheaply made- Not heavy duty or for large pets as described. Was using on 75lb dog. It Did not last long after getting twisted. Then cable kinked permanently causing the plastic casing to start splitting open, exposing the bare wire inside which then started to rust before it flat out SNAPPED. The clip used to attach to the collar was not weather resistant and became hard to open after less than two weeks outside. Do not waste your money in this cable leash. There are much better out there.
I bought one for my dog exactly 1 year ago. It's strong, didn't rust and keeps my bum tethered. My only issue is I noticed a link in the line and went to check today. The plastic cover is worn showing copper wires inside. 1 year warranty and today is 01/20/19...existing one purchased 01/20/18 to the DAY!!! I wish they put stronger protective covering. It has copper wires inside which I'm not taking a chance with of fraying or snapping. I'm getting the same one but wish the manufactur was aware of this issue as this is the same issue every 12 months.
I have bought this product twice because it seems to be thicker than the other brands and the plastic tougher. However it says it has a one year warranty but there's no way to claim that. So this is the best I can do. The first time I bought it I had a crack in the plastic and the metal wires underneath were splitting but to my surprise that is not where it broke on me one day the entire metal and plastic just snapped and my dog was running free. I did not receive a refund for that one either. My dog is a bulldog only weighs 54 lbs but I bought the 125 lb XL because she likes to play and pull and because the length was longer as well. I live in Canada where it is very snowy but there hasn't seemed to be any rust on either of my purchases. My current leash has a dark spot and I'm worried this is where it's going to break soon as this is what happened last time. Both of my purchases began to get tangled and bent and unable to straighten out. My current lead was purchased in January and even though it is supposed to have a year warranty I can not seem to do so.
Nightmares, is what I get every time I think of our dog reaching the end of this cable at full speed. We have a great dog, typically calm and well mannered. The owner, well, not only new to pets but also maybe not so bright at times. Add the distraction (ie; squirrel, tormenting magpie, etc) to a dog anchored to 30' of cable and I witnessed our 80 lb. dog go from sleeping to full speed to on her back wondering wtf just happened. I take full responsibiy, and it still pains me. So the product worked, can't fault the cable in any way. I'm sure the squirrel is still gloating... I went against my better judgement on this one and got burned. Once.
I have a 85lb pitbull x lab and this thing basically just fell apart. The cable kinked very easily and one of the end buckles completely sheared off. Had to put one end through the crimped eyelet and secure it to a tree. Threw it out after using for 2 short camping trips... not worth the money
I ordered this leash for our dog when we go away on holidays as well as when we want to tie him up to run around the back yard. Our puppy is pretty strong and this leash seems pretty durable. We used it for the first time this past weekend when we went camping and it does have a few kinks in it but for the price it's just what I needed. The quality of this leash if pretty on par with the leashes of the same type you can get from the store but it's much more affordable buying off of Amazon.
I have attached this cable to a 360 degree swiveling pet tie out so that my 39 pound, 7 month old Samoyed can run in the yard without fear of running off the property or into the flower gardens. She has a very strong pull having broken through 2 harnesses, but this cable holds her well place concurrent with keeping her safe. The only downside is that the metal hook/clasp that I attach to her collar is rusting after only being on the lawn for 10 days.
On receiving the lead overall seemed pretty great in terms of quality. I've had it outside now for a little over a month. I haven't used it very often but just noticed yesterday the quick release is completely rusted. I'm not able to open/use it at all now.
