To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
It seems there are a lot of products on Amazon these days that are over-hyped. This is definitely one of them. For a price like this I'm sorry, but my expectation level is going to be much higher than it would be for a 5 or even 10 dollar bottle of body wash. The scent is definitely unique, and it's definitely similar to what's described: sweetish tobacco/cigar; However, the scent didn't rock my world, and it doesn't have much projection nor longevity - so what the heck am I paying an extra 20 bucks for? It lathers decently, but I can't speak to anything special. Maybe I'm missing it (certainly possible).
All in all, I wish I could take back my purchase. I'll give it 3 stars because the company is in Texas, and they are providing a masculine product, which is an endangered species these days (masculinity), and the product certainly isn't bad or anything, but for me it didn't do anything special to merit such a huge price tag. Had I spent $15 on this I wouldn't have been unhappy, but for $24 I have that feeling where I'm in the club and need water badly, and the club charges you $10 for a glass of water.
Buy this body wash now if you like the smell of pipe tobacco, cigars, whiskey, and manliness!
I love the scent. It is the best part about this wash.
How is it as a shampoo/conditioner? 3/5. It's fine. It's not great, not terrible. But that's not the selling feature for me.
Don't listen to others in the reviews. As of June 2018, the formula is not overpowering or slimy. It rinses off just as easily as any other hydrating body wash. I used Nivea 3 in 1 before and it lathers and rinses just like that. The scent doesn't linger in the bathroom or adhere to your towels unless you steam up the bathroom and saturate the place with water vapor.
The scent stays on your body for around 4ish hours, but it's never strong or overt to make someone ask about your body wash. I'll be purchasing the "Spirits" to handle that later.
The wash doesn't dry out my skin, and I'm prone to dry skin anyway. It doesn't seem as hydrating or conditioning as the descriptions say though.
All in all, it is a functional body wash with a fantastic smell. The price is high. For 18 oz, I was hoping for around $18. This isn't a specialized medical-grade body wash that earns the high price tag. It's a slightly better quality than Bath and Body Works and much better than Old Spice or Axe or Everyman Jack, so I'm willing to pay more. Just wish it was under $20. Not sure how much longer I'll be able to justify spending $24 on a bottle of body wash.
The scent sells it. It's got me interested in their hair products too, though $24 for a 2oz tin of hair clay is pricey even by salon standards. Drop it to $16 and I'm your customer all day long.
So I randomly decided to buy nearly every men's body wash on Amazon. Jack Black, L'Occitaine, Rugged & Dapper, Pre de Provence, Brickell, everything I could get my hands on. And you want to know why 18.21 won? Not just because of the scent, which as you must know by now, is a potent sweet tobacco. No, it wins because it's actually a really great soap. It kept my skin the most moisturized, kept my hair soft, didn't dry me out, and in short, did its job better than any of the competition. Also, happens to smell like expensive cigars and mahogany. So, about that. Yup, I've found a new favorite.
I bought the 18.21 Man Made Wash and just got it yesterday. I was starting to have buyers remorse because I don't know what I was thinking spending $24 on soap (yeah, I'm cheap). First shower with this stuff and I was blown away. This stuff is killer awesome. Smells great, I can still smell it this morning. My wife loves the smell as well. My hair is soft but not frizzy. It didn't dry out my skin like any other stuff I've tried did. I'm going to be pushing this to everyone I can.
I couldn't even finish washing with the soap before I had to stop, rinse off and wash the scent off with another soap. It's that bad! I was never abducted as a child and held in a dark, dank basement where my captor was also drying out wet tobacco leaves and would hover over me with a mouth full of dip, drooling onto me as I screamed, but if I had been, the smell of this stuff would remind me of that. If someone gathered all the used cigarette butts from the floor of a casino, chewed on the concentrated, sticky, used tobacco for several hours and then smeared your netherbits with the gummy paste, it would smell better than this stuff. It makes me shudder and sob for hours alone in my closet wishing for the nightmares to abate. Please, do not buy this wash. Unless, of course, you are a creepy old man that abducts children and keeps them in cold dark basements.
OK. Scent is totally subjective. This is the best body wash I have ever tried and I will order again. I'll upgrade to a 5 star rating as soon as matching stick deodorant is available. What does it smell like? The Middle East. Period. And it's very strong in my opinion. My wife is unsure if she likes it or not (she doesn't like it but is too polite to admit it.) I have no fear that she will try to use it. No woman would use this stuff. Men only. Some say a little goes a long way and that may be true but probably not for me. I expect this to last a month. It does not lather well. It leaves the skin a bit oily but I like that. It's moisturizing. It's obviously expensive. I don't care. If you don't mind the price, try it. it's intoxicating.
UPDATE: increased to 5 stars. Contacted manufacturer and they are working on a deodorant.
I wish I could rate this higher. I wanted to like it especially reading the reviews. So the good is that is lathers well, it does leave a nice silky feeling afterwards but the smell reminds me of old womens cheap perfume but the mens version...its strong and loud but not as pleasant as I had hoped. Had to knock off a star for the price. I didn't get a good return on my investment. Live and learn.
I personally love this body wash but there are some minor issues which make it not quite a five star product. Pros: Smell is amazing! My fiance LOVES the smell, I frequently get compliments and after hitting the gym during my lunch break I really don't need cologne (seriously, the smell is that fragrant). Plus, as a 3-in-1 it does a good job as a body wash and the hair. Cons: As many reviewers have stated it leaves a film on your body which doesn't really quite wash off. It also seems to dry out the skin. Nothing major but I have noted I need to apply lotion more than when I use other body washes.
