This bread slice guide is a little bit more expensive than others on Amazon, but after reading some reviews, it sounded like a superior guide and it is. It is much thicker & sturdier than the others. I can fit a 2 pound loaf in it easily. The tines are sturdy & spaced far enough apart for regular bread, or if you skip every other tine you can make Texas toast. I'm also pleased with how fast it arrived.
A package was waiting for me at my front door a couple of days ago. The package was heavy, and I couldn't figure out what I'd ordered that weighed that much. Inside was the F-shopping bread-slicing guide. I was surprised, as the slicing guide is almost entirely plastic. I had a loaf of raisin-walnut bread handy, so I placed it in the slicing-guide and gave it a try. The slicing-guide was stable on my table, and slicing the bread evenly was pretty simple. The attached photo was the result. Pretty good slicing, if I say so myself.
Just to make clear: This is not a bread slicer; it's a device that holds a loaf of bread and allows you to slice the loaf evenly. Also, as the name states, the red sides can be rotated downward, making the guide about two inches slimmer. Not a huge difference, but a nice feature.
I've used this type of slicing guide for more than a decade. My last one eventually fully broke and stopped locking into position. It was also missing the 2 front posts. It was sad having to replace it, we've had so many wonderful years together. Anyway.. *toss*....this new one actually feels sturdier and if it can make it past the 10 years of it's predecessor, all the better. Highly recommended.
Pro-tip....get a good electric knife to use with this (8 to 9 inch blades). You'll get consistent quality slices.
This is an ideal bread slice guide (for my use, anyway). It is slightly longer and higher than my homemade bread loaves, and spring-loaded so that it helps hold the loaf in place. I use a Cuisinart electric knife to cut the slices, which come out almost perfectly even, and only about 5 mm (~20% less than 1/4 inch) thick -- perfect for toasting or for sandwiches. It's easy to use (lean the knife blade against the back guide), even down to the last crust piece. When finishes, it can snap into a thinner size, with all the part that need to be washed on the outside.
Purchased this bread slicer to replace one of the same design that lasted me about 20 years before one of the hinge pins finally broke. You can easily slice a loaf of homemade bread in a few minutes, all nice and even and pretty. I use an electric knife with it. Hope I'll get 20 years out of this one too!
I am the original absent-minded professor, which means I'm a "klutz." I have to have a machine to bake my bread, for gosh sakes. This cutting guide is simple, and it works. And even a klutz such as I gets measured, beautiful slices. It helps to have a very sharp, serrated, bread knife, but even I can remember that.
works well for the most part. After about a month of use one of the sides will not stay up on its own so you have to hold it. At first i thought no big deal, i have to hold the bread anyway but it actually makes things significantly more difficult when you are slicing through the last 1/3rd length since your hand is in the way while holding the broken side up.
I had one of these years ago, and somehow it got lost when we moved. When I got my new bread machine, I bought a cheap bread slicer. After a few uses, I found this one on Amazon and couldn't buy it fast enough. Slicing bread into perfect, even slices is simple with this and a good bread knife.
This is a great bread slicer except we use it for the bread we make in a bread machine. It is a bit too narrow for that so we have to kind of squish the bread a bit to get it in there to slice. I do like the way it is easy to clean and fold away. This is the only bread slicer I have tried.
This is my first slicer, so don't have anything to compare to. I decided to go with this product since it had evenly spaced cutting slots, and looked easy to clean / maintain being all one piece. I have only used it so far for 2 small sourdough loafs. The knife easily cuts into the plastic. A bit concerning since who knows how much of that is being ingested. Otherwise I like the spacing, that the spacing is consistent, if you want a larger slice, just skip a row. It folds up easily for smaller footprint to store. So far, its .. working.
