Heavy material and thread are exactly what these are for. I used one of the smaller needles with heavy waxed nylon thread on heavy webbing, and results were perfect. These will prove handy to have around.
I used them to repair a leather handbag that was coming undone around the top zipper. The needle I used worked like a charm and was very strong, but easy to use. I would highly recommend these for tough sewing jobs.
I bought these to fix a Bownet bag for my full size collapasable soccer goal. Pretty gnarly material; ended up breaking the smaller curled needle trying to pull it through the material. No problem with the larger needles. More than likely a simple case of user error. Defintely worth the $ over regular needles.
Good to have these in your Get Home Safely kit / Bug Out Bag for repairing LOTS OF THINGS, such as your clothing, web-gear, ruck sack/back pack, etc. For extra strong sewing you can utilize the inner-strands of "550 Para Cord" for repairs or modifications with these needles. In some cases you may also want to purchase a Leather Punch to assist. I recommend this product to my friends. Cheers. "Salvation is of the LORD." -Jonah 2:9c [KJV]
I purchased these in order to tighten straps on a faux-leather tote bag, and the largest, thickest needle worked well. The needles are attached to a card which identifies which fabrics/items they are to be used for. You might have to try more than one needle, depending on the thickness of the item you are sewing. For example, the one marked for leather was not thick enough for the repair I was doing, but it would work for a thinner piece of leather or other material. Also, use patience when sewing; push the needle through one layer at a time, not both layers, and you might want to use a cloth to help you push it through, in order to put less pressure on your fingers. I would recommend these needles for various sewing jobs/repairs.
Bought this solely for the curved upholstery/mattress needle. Needed to sew my mattress back up after resizing and the needle broke after three stitches. If you just need a curved needle, this is will probably suffice. However, it isn't heavy duty enough for an actual mattress.
The needles are extremely brittle for their intended purpose of sewing leather and canvas several islets were broken inside the packaging before I opened it the curved needles both broke with little pressure on the material I was sewing they appear to be cast poor quality metal with lots of casting flaws
