To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This tamper is my first tamper I ever bought. Nice and heavy. It feels good in hand.
But I had to take it apart to file the parts because of spring plunger action not smooth. I felt the metals were scratching too much that I didn't feel good.
Also, I measured the spring tension to see if it is 30# as it says. Well, it was about 32# ~ 33# on my scale. Since I took it apart and know how it works, I made the calibration. Now, I can duplicate 30# or a little shy of it every single time.
After what I did to it, I really like this tamper. It is a pleasure to use every time.
I am very happy with this tamper and glad I invested in it. What a difference it makes to the quality and consistency of my espressos. I love that it indicates when I've hit around 30 pounds of pressure, makes it so easy. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the top of the handle is rounded. I suppose most, if not all, tampers are like that. As as result it hurts my palm, but I can live with it. I'd like to see a handle that is flat and wide on top, but it's not a deal breaker.
The calibration on this tamper doesn't seem to be spot on, and it isn't terribly convient to test such levels of pressure. Isn't that why you get a calibrated tamper? It makes a good espresso pick, but it seems to be a bit of a novelty. I would stick with a classic solid-metal tamper.
