These items work great. I'm not a baker but wanted to try something new. I had fun frosting the cake with a fancy shmancy cake spatula on a spinning board. Haha The spinning board works great. It glides so nicely and its sturdy. I felt like a pro. **If helpful, please click 'Helpful'** :)
This year, I decided to make my two year old's birthday cake. I watched 500 cake and frosting videos on youtube (shout out to nerdy nummies cake series) and decided two weeks before the party to order this set. It was 100% worth the money. I can guarantee you, her cake wouldnt have come out looking half as good with all three of these tools.
I love the cake icer, but other than that this is really, really cheap and disappointing. Sometimes on amazon reviews I feel like people expect an Inspector Gadget Grade product so I try to be reasonable when I order with my expectations. I am not professional and just needed something for the occasional birthday or holiday cake that I bake. With all of that said, I thought this product was, for the most part, a joke. I used to just use a cake stand on a lazy susan for a poor man's cake turntable and I think it worked as well as this -OR BETTER!- and I didn't have to spend money on it. The cake stand is such cheap plastic it honestly moves like it's a toy for a pretend kitchen or something. There's nothing smooth about the rotation. The icing scraper is just alright, it does the job but I don't feel like it gives very smooth lines, either. Really annoyed I wasted my money on this.
Turntable is super flimsy and it does not turn smoothly at all. I was skeptical about the weight, but lots of positive reviews so thought I would try anyway. Apart from the lightweight, flimsy structure mine also starts wobbling badly after first couple of smooth turns - regardless of what weight is on it. Maybe just a defect with ball bearings. Dunno. Also: I honestly thought the spatula 12inch length was referring to the spatula blade only without the grip. It's not, it's overall length. So it's way too short for my purposes. My mistake. I guess you should never trust 'em when they say it's over 12 inches long :) Will return and try to get a heavier one I can find a reasonably priced one.
This is the perfect cake turntable for a novice or occasional baker. It has a smooth rotation and the offset spatula and icing smoother made decorating my cake quick and easy. The only downside for me was how low it is, I found a taller turntable more fitting for my needs.
