Ended up returning them because the shade of black didn't go with much of my clothing.
This version has a set of laces that are very different from the other, 'Flat' Palladium laces. It's a less pleasant feel, because while the lace is trying to be a military boot, it is not. The canvas 'Waxiness' had a bit of an odd feel, too, and I didn't foresee myself wearing them as much as I've worn other Palladiums in the past.
The PERFECT boots to travel with. I would recommend these to every light globetrotting backpacker. I love these boots! Only downside would be that sometimes rocks get caught in the grip but it really doesn't bother me at all.
Palladiums (Palladia?) have a fit all their own, and I love their stuff for a variety of reasons. I ordinarily live out of Vans, but when something heavier-duty is needed, enter the Palladiums. They wear like a pair of comfortable jeans, and the toe cap goes a long way in extending their useful life for people like myself who seem to always be scuffing my toes on something. I love that these can be worn as a boot or a high top, and they're my go-to shoe for any time I won't be walking in the rain or snow. Lightweight, quality built, and sharp-looking
Some notes on fit: I ordinarily wear a 10.5 US. However, my feet are wide at the balls of my feet. The toe box of most shoes is what makes the difference for me, which is why I can never wear Converse, as they're just too narrow. I bought a size 11 for this shoe, and I was worried because there was a little space between the tip of my big toe and the inside edge of the shoe. I was worried for two reasons: 1) Would my feet slide around, chafing my sole or heel? 2) will they look like clown shoes because I really wear a 10.5?
The answer is an emphatic no to both. Whereas I was bummed because I was going to have tp return them (and not for a smaller size, because it just wouldn't work), I decided to wait and wear them for a day. Glad I did, because these are THE most comfortable shoes I own. And they don't look like I'm wearing a giant's shoes.
Not my first Palladium boots, but the last pair I had were leather, and manufactured prior to the current ownership and its design overhauls. This is my first pair of canvas boots. They are as comfortable as everyone says they are. I have much more expensive and much nicer (aesthetically, materials, construction) quality boots, but while I enjoy those, not a single one of them made me grin like a little kid every time I put them on just because of the comfort. Canvas moves with you.
I do use my own preferred insole to install the arch and other supports that wouldn't be there otherwise. And I would rather go stomping around on concrete with a running shoe, to have more shock absorption. But for everyday wear, and especially in hotter weather, these are fantastic. And the wax finish gives them a little bit of a vintage, aged look without looking fake.
My first purchase of Palladium shoes were hi top leather sneakers when my travel boots proved too lightweight for the dozens of miles on stone floors / staircases in museums. They were a terrific help then. I decided to try this brand again now that my job has me standing for hours on a concrete patio and walking on leaf covered & slippery slopes. In fact recently the slippery terrain led to a pretty bad sprained ankle. So I needed something with substantial tread, great cushioning, and ankle support. These boots are fitting my needs perfectly. I was a little concerned about their weight, but I don't notice that when I am wearing them (old adage: a pound on your feet is like 5 extra pounds on your back). I can wear them all day and they are comfortable in 90+ F degree heat. Like another reviewer, I do have an insole in them to provide more arch support. Plus I sized up a half size to allow more breathing room with cushioned wool socks. They look pretty cool too.
I love these shoes. I had a pair years ago and wore them until the wheels fell off. Can't find the green suede ones again but this wax canvas in black is wonderful too. GREAT IF YOU HAVE WIDER FEET! It's so hard to find wide enough shoes for me I go with Keen, Steve Madden and Palladium. Palladium is my favourite out of all 3. They are very true to size. Take into account the size socks you like to wear if you want more room. I'm usually a women's 8-8.5 so I go with 8.5 with Palladium and it's perfect for all sock thicknesses.
They break-in wonderfully conforming to your foot over time. Can't say enough great things about these shoes.
I like the waxed cotton type of fabric. As comfortable and durable as I remember them being with past pairs. They do feel like they have made them a little wider in the foot and the ankle because mine are laced up much closer together than my previous pairs. Not a bad thing as it leaves room for new insoles. This is my third pair of Palladium so I am pretty hard on them and they last a year or more before any signs of breakdown start to occur.
