I am very surprised about how pleased I am with the Mairico Ultra Sharp knife. Because of the most reasonable price, I never expected to get such a good bargain. First of all let me say that the packaging is FANTASTIC. It came in its' own box inside the regular packaging and was even provided with cushioning. When I took it out of its' box the first thing I admired was the beauty of the knife and then the length and weight. I almost could not wait to try it. I did wait until I was preparing food for lunch the following day. I found it to be VERY sharp and the weight of it helped with slicing potatoes, onions and cabbage. I had to use very little force because it was so hefty and cut so easily. Thanks for providing us with such a useful product.
I was skeptical on ordering this knife, because it sounded too good to be true, but I figured I can take my chances for $25. When I received the knife, I was very impressed with the box that it came in. Most of us don't have long drawers to store this knife, so it's nice having this case. The first time I used it was on a Gyro that I rotisserie on my grill, it cut really thin slices just like the way you will get in a restaurant. Second time I used it to make Korean Bulogogi, where I semi freeze the rib-eye, once again it cut the slices really thin just the way I wanted it. The key thing to remember is to treat this knife as an expensive knife, i.e. wash and dry the knife right after each use, and store it back in the box.
I’m generally a knife snob, and I have 5 Global knives as my primary set...so, there’s that. I didn’t want to spend much on a slicer because a) I won’t use it a ton, and b) it’s not a very technical knife. I just needed it to be decent metal, long, and straight. The Granton edge was to be a welcome bonus.
Long story short, I didn’t expect much.....but damn. My blade had both a curve and a twist, evident by initial inspection... Even at the bottom tier of price, I still expect a straight blade.
The knife is really a great value for home use. The knife presents well and appears to be well made. It is very sharp right out of the box. It looks much more expensive than it is and is packaged in a nice case to store the knife. I used it the other day to slice some homemade slab bacon and it cut straight and is sharp enough to make thin slices. I can’t wait to slice a prime rib roast with it. I would recommend this knife.
I have sharpened it and it does okay with slicing meat, the handle is comfortable. You would think whomever was cleaning the knife up when assembled they would try getting the nicks out of the spine to make the knife look cleaner nicer. This is a 10 dollar knife at best.
Very impressed with the quality and price of this slicing knife. I was looking for a slicing knife but did not want to pay 50+ dollars. The knife feels great in your hand. Used this Thanksgiving for carving three turkeys. I was able to achieve very thin slices and everyone commented that the presentation looked great. Looking forward to using this on beef brisket.
I had my first try at slicing a ham today (Easter Sunday) and found this knife to be easy to use. It is very sharp and enabled me to cut thin, uniform slices of ham while exerting just a slight bit of downward energy. The 11 inch length was long enough to slice the whole way across the ham and is about as long as I would find comfortable to use. I recommend it highly.
