Absolute gem of a little synth. Bought it for certain sounds often found in psychedelic trance like Astral Projection’s tracks (warm low/low mid lines that thicken up the whole sound) it delivers it effortlessly and offers much more besides. Beautiful build quality, and the dials feel great - dont mind the small size at all, it looks cute! It doesn't take up much space - but delivers on awesome phat sounds. Gorgeous sawtooth sound and instantly gives your music the excitement and authenticity. ALL the important parameters can be automated from your DAW, what more could you ask for and especially at this price. Great VST cc controller software available from Studio Electronics’ site. This is a very special little synth!
This is my fave of all the boutiques in terms of sound and flexibility there is so many options for sound design crammed in . All 3 osc sound really thick and weighty. Yes the knobs are small but I think it's a small compromise and I would prefer to have those options even if squeeesed in rather than not at all.. so yes it is small but sounds huge
It sounds amazing. It doesn't quite sound like a Moog Model D, but it does sound like I imagine a vintage Roland Modular would sound--that makes me really happy. I really enjoy the filter and the oscillators. I would love it if Roland/SE would add a duophonic mode so you can play two oscillators at one time.
One of the smallest, most versatile, and cheapest true analog synths available. Great bargain, and it's not just another clone of vintage gear. It's great for learning synthesis as it's deep, but not too overwhelming. Definitely worth reading the manuals and fully understanding synth terminology online with as well. I like it because it's unique and really forces you to focus on it if you want some varied and complex sounds. Probably the best of the Roland Boutiques. Being charged from the wall, it doesn't have any audio/hiss issues. Great product.
Studio Electronics is an amazing company with a reputation for incredible hand-made in the USA synthesizers that are up in the $10,000 range. This collaboration with Roland has yielded the only true analog synthesizer in the "boutique" series and it sounds incredible. Very powerful oscillators & filter combined with loads of modulation options and a great-sounding built-in delay circuit. Some people have complained about the small/crammed knobs but I've never found them to be a bother. If you have any volume or delay issues with the line out I recommend getting an 1/8" mono cable or 1/8" mono to 1/4" depending on your setup. 1/8" stereo mini on the line out can have phasing issues.
