Purchased as part of a compromise solution that should work as hoped.
Although primarily designed as a means for two individuals to share the output from a smartphone, media player, tablet etc on which music has been stored, each using a separate pair of headphones, the "Syncwire Headphone Splitter, Nylon-Braided 3.5mm Extension Cable Audio Stereo Y Splitter (Hi-Fi Sound), 3.5mm Male To 2 Ports 3.5mm Female Headset Splitter for Phone, PS4, Switch, Tablets & More" will be part of the solution with a pair of AUX leads from the same brand.
Tested in a different context, it electrically functioned as planned but an unexpected issue was discovered and was due to a misleading description on-page. The unexpected issue rendered it unworkable.
Although the covering is claimed to be 'soft nylon' it appears to be quite hard and was found to generate considerable mechanical noise as one arm rubbed against the other. It also felt cold and was thought to either be or include thin woven wire. As the mechanical noise travelled along the cabling, it rendered this unsuitable. A pair of AUX cables from the same brand share the same style of covering but their 2m length allowed their greater lengths to rub against other sections of both cables and that greatly increased the extent of mechanical noise which was ultimately audible though headphones and equally audible without them.
The brand is known via an earlier attempted purchase that did not materialise due to availability problems; a similar product from another brand and immediately available was ultimately purchased.
The splitter was therefore returned with the intention of finding a replacement that is either rubberised or PVC-covered as such coverings are known not to induce mechanical noise.
One side of the splitter is perfect quality, but the other side has constant buzzing/clicking. I expected some quality loss, but the one side is unusable, which means its not a splitter, just a fancy extender with and extra socket.
First of all no diagram to tell you which jack is headphones or microphone. Second of all when I plug the microphone jack into the y cord it makes the left channel go crackly. I unplug the microphone everything is fine. Plug headset directly into Xbox controller audio is fine. Please send me another so i can try. Not gonna waste my time trying to refund this and sending it back.
I purchased this product looking for one that offers studio sound in both ports. I found that this is not the actual case. I read a review from someone who suggested the user make sure it clicks into place when plugging the splitter in, which I did. I did not get consistent studio sound in both ports.
Schade.
