Does not connect to my tv's vga port

The pair I received appeared not to work. I saw changes on my PC desktop but no signal to the RGB display. The pair I received after further examining were detected by my PC as generic PnP monitors. I am trying a fix to see if I can connect to my TV. The VGA port on my TV does work with a VGA cable. So far I can only rate a 2.

When I plugged these in, I get the following response from xrandr:

The 1920x1080 resolution advertised is not the default, and is not even available.

Do these plugs provide EDID configuration, or just load the RGB lines?

Don't expect 60Hz refresh rates above 1080p

Unfortunately, this product was on the same page as a number of other versions of the product.
I wanted a single unit, not a multi-pack, so I ordered this one. However, the multi-pack was the only one with the mini DisplayPort.
So - I assume this device works, but it doesn't work for me. And the return policy from Amazon would net me $0.03 after paying for the return, so I guess I get to keep it.
