To be blunt, I am fed up of non working products being sold here, which waste a vast amount of time and hold up mission critical projects. We ordered this to drive an external 4K monitor with a USB-C port via the excellent Caldigit+ dock connected to our 2018 15" MacBook Pro, yet nothing appears on the monitor and it goes to sleep. Tried unplugging and wiggling the cable, restarting the whole system, nothing!
Can you ALL please test every single one of your products before shipping, NOT do what the Chinese do and test a small % and write off the losses from the X% returns, DJI drones included. (I know this first hand from someone in the tech business. Really just not acceptable.)
I now have to organise a return and go back to our old more fiddly method fo connecting the monitor directly using a Thunderbolt cable from one of the other TB3 ports on the MacBook.
Looks and feels high quality, but it just stopped working after very little use. I used it only a couple of days a week, with the DisplayPort end plugged into a single monitor the whole time. I would just plug the USB-C end into a MacBook Pro when I needed to use the monitor. So, very light use. And it just stopped working after about a month. Completely dead. Bought a replacement (same type of cable, different brand) and it works fine.
This cable alone connected to a 4k LG monitor prevents it from going to sleep. It starts to turn on and off. I noticed some static discharge from my Macbook pro, but it happened to touch the usb-c connector on this cable connected to the monitor and it zapped me. Another thing to frown is the usb-c connector which is much harder to detach than any other usb-c connection. Tried all ports - the same. Shame because it is really nice looking but probably going in the garbage.
Originally I thought the cable was faulty. It only worked when nudging it. Then it stopped completely, both my MacBooks would detect the monitor but no display output. So, I was sent a replacement cable by Uni. Still black screen. I plugged in my custom built desktop with a GTX 1080, guess what. Black screen!
This cable killed the board in my monitor so the HDMI ports still work, but the DisplayPort is now faulty. So no more 4K for me though my GPU. This isn't the first time I've had issues with a uni cable either. Time to buy the original Apple adapter.
Useless waste of time and money. I bought two of these and neither worked. Tested with Macbook Pro and Android USB-C phones. Returned. Feels like a scam - the product comes with a card explaining 'what to do if the cable doesn't work'. Doesn't really inspire confidence...
caused the headphone and usb-c ports to short out when used. whenever it was plugged in a loud digital noise was audible through the macbook's headphone output. caused the computer to panic, freeze and restart when used. who knows what damage it has caused to the most expensive computer i've ever bought
kept playing up connecting my Macbook to my Dell U2715H monitor for months, today there was a burning smell and the cable (monitor end) got incredibly hot, turned off ASAP and thought the monitor was damaged as it wouldn't turn on. After to leaving the monitor to cool down it is working on other mini-dp ports, but not sure about the full size DisplayPort. I don't know if it's the Macbook, the cable or the monitor but nervous to retry this cable.
Cord has stopped working after two months of use. Was happy with it at first but now it is causing display on monitor to be choppy and unstable - monitor works fine with replacement hdmi cable. Very disappointing.
