I liked it because it’s easy to use and handy to have when travelling. Some places I’ve stayed in have only had a microwave and kettle in their kitchenettes so having something like this comes in useful.
OMG what a great product! Easy and quick way to poach eggs - I use it every day. I even bought one for my Mum too because she loves poached eggs but very time consuming to cook the traditional way. You can fry an egg in this too but I haven't tried it yet. Fully recommend!
Well What can I say. Performance of this toaster is far from what I had hoped but first the positive points
1. Does it toast? It gets HOT! Oh yes this thing gets hotter than a nuclear reactor at full pelt. A couple of times I thought I was going to have the microwave equivalent of the China Syndrome with the Toaster melting its way through the bottom of the Microwave and on through the Fridge on which it was resting. Do not be fooled by the toasting plates being wrapped in Silicon. Silicon does get hot! Very Hot!... So does it toast...? Well yes it does but it takes about 5 minutes to do it (in an 800watt microwave and turning the toaster half way through and you have to slap butter on the outside of the bread). It comes out a reasonable colour.
So if it does that then why am I unhappy with it? 2. Well it seems to do a great job at removing the cheese! At first I thought it was beaming all the high fat cheese out (like on Star Trek) leaving me with two slices of bread welded together and no cheese and it also removed the flavour. I have tried Cheese slices, Cheese blocks, Grated cheese and other variations and all seems to just go! I have added meat and other ingredients to it and although they remain the cheese just vanishes...? "A genuine mystery"! I hear you say, well No. Not quite! The cheese seems to pour out of the sides of the toaster leaving just a horrible mess on whatever I have rested the toaster on. With nothing to seal the contents in the sandwich, anything likely to melt in the heat makes a mad dash for the exit and leaves the sandwich empty. I get fed up having to scrape the remains of the cheese off the dinner plate and silicon covers and back on to the sandwich. So technically I end up with an inside-out sandwich with the contents as a topping on the toasted remains.
3. If you have a combination Microwave oven then; forget it! I have recently refitted my kitchen with a Bosch combination Microwave Oven. However the instructions with the toaster explicitly state you can't use it in that. So I have had to resort to an old microwave in the garage (yes and before you ask I do have a fridge in the garage).
I had seen earlier versions of this sandwich maker that appeared to have a rigid frame outside the silicon covers which would effectively seal in the contents. The version I had only have only has silicon covers which have silicon hooks to keep the two halves together. This is ineffective as it only holds the plates loosely which is the root cause of the missing cheese syndrome mentioned above. Fix this and it be more effective. As for me I think a proper electric sandwich toaster is the way to go, so I think I will be sending it back as a failed experiment. ......Disappointing!
Because we are so happy, if not to say enthusiastic, we even bought all three Morphy Richards microwave ovens over time. So we have the egg, the toastie and the baked potato maker. Finally, you can use these microwaves to prepare snacks super-fast and really super delicious in the micro. Results like from the oven or from the stove! All three devices work very simply, are easy to care for and ALWAYS conjure up perfectly cooked eggs, crispy melting sandwich toast or soft baked potato with a crust =). And even absolutely foolproof =)). My personal favorite is the potato maker. I love baked potatoes! However, I do not always have the time or desire to bake the potatoes in the oven for 1 - 1.5 hours. The maker is big enough for a (!) Giant potato of approx. 400 g or 2 medium-sized potatoes. In about 20 minutes you have such soft, fluffy baked potatoes: - Wash potatoes if necessary. brush off (it is best to use floury potatoes) - pierce all around with a fork - be careful of splashes 😉 - then 9-10 minutes at 800 W micro without lid - Lid on and then another 10-11 min. With lid in micro Finished! The devices are a bit expensive, but worth it for all snack lovers who have little time. Great quality. Just try it!
I bought this after watching someone upload a video of them cooking random things in this microwave toastie maker. I struggle with kitchen space, and heavy things, so thought I'd try this out. OMG, what a game changer! In just a few minutes you can have the perfect toastie, AND more importantly, because it has non stick plates, with silicon round the outside, you literally leave it to cool down while you eat your toastie, come back, and can dunk it in the washing up, very quick wipe and it's done. No scrubbing, doesn't need to be plugged in, and is the size of a plate. It's not heavy to lift, and I have made a range of different things, including putting spaghetti bolognese in some bread and making a fabulous meaty toastie. I now have a list of about 30 different toastie flavours to try, and I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can't make better by putting it between a couple of bits of bread and toasting it!! Genius product. I would just say, be careful when you turn it over in the microwave, and when you remove it, because although the silicon outside doesn't get hot, the metal plates inside do, so the heat can come through a little bit. I use a tea towel to remove it, give it a quick squish down, and you can hear the toastie sizzle a bit more. Pretty sure you could toast crumpets etc or sweet fillings, the potential is endless. Super product!!
Arrived on time and in good condition, absolutely fantastic, best thing since sliced bread, I find myself having a toasted sandwich every day , best filling Chicken, ham, salami, cheese, onion, tomato, and mayo (fantastic) ' hint' use cheese slices Thay do not melt as much ' no mess ' , tried lots of different fillings all come out brilliantly, This is 100% better than a electric toaster and much easier to clean, very good quality and worth twice the price , I have shown this to lots of friends and family who have all bought one And thay are just as happy , think I should be on commission , over the Moon happy with this purchase , best thing I have bought for years worth 10 stars .
Well that’s top surprise this year. I can have toasted sandwich and I don’t have to spend 40 mins afterwards cleaning every crevice of a sticky yucky appliance. The sandwich comes out browned, compact and crispy. I am in awe that microwave is capable of producing something so tasty. I am no microwave fan in general, I prefer reheating food in a pot on the stove when possible, but wow this is first time I am glad I have one. We have Neff mircowave without the turntable and sandwich came out evenly done. We keep bread in the freezer so it’s usually still semi-frozen when I make sanwiches, I just add extra minute each side and it comes out just as good.
On a plus note it works fine and giving a trial run with a grated cheese filling it came out nicely browned and crispy. It’s easy to clean and the plates come out and are non stick. The plates are however awkward to get back and anyone who has a problem with their hands might find it really difficult. It’s a handy item and time saving compared with electric models. My main disappointment was that it’s actually quite small and I had to cut a piece of each slice of bread in order for it to fit, I always buy large thick sliced loaves so it’s bit wasteful which is why I’ve given 4 stars.
