This was my first purchase from an Amazon clothing brand (Goodthreads). After eyeing the items for a while, I decided to try this henley. I have a couple henleys that are my favorite tops of all time from Olivers Apparel, they are excellent but pricey, at about $100/each. So I decided to try the "budget" alternative and get this $20 henley from Goodthreads.
Bottom line: the old adage is true: you get what you pay for. For the price, I suppose I can't complain. It actually fits and looks decent except for the stiff collar; but the big difference is the material. The $100 Olivers henleys feel like I'm wearing a feather - insanely light, breathable, and comfortable. In comparison, this one felt like I was wearing a burlap potato sack.
For $20, it's decent - but the biggest sacrifice you're making with budget pricing (as I've found with this and other past purchases) is material. You can make a cheap material look a certain way, but it's impossible to imitate the higher end feel, function, and look of the good stuff. I'd rather have 1 amazing shirt that I love wearing than 5 "meh" shirts I avoid.
The style is very nice and fit as expected out of the package, however after the first wash, it was at least 2 sizes too small for my husband and had to be given to our son who wears a medium. This was purchased as an XL and washed in cold, dried on medium heat and there is no way this would ever fit my husband again. The color is nice, though and it did not fade, so if you decide to order it, just keep in mind that it will possi ly shrink after washing.
I'm on the prowl for the perfect T-shirt -- whether it's a crewneck, V-neck, or henley -- that I can wear under a sweater or jacket, or by itself on warmer days. This Goodthreads henley is probably my favorite henley that I've found so far. Some brands (Marine Layer, Buck Mason) don't have enough length in the torso; or they have a loose, billowy fit around the midsection; or the collar doesn't hold its shape after a cycle in the washer and dryer. I'm happy to say that this Goodthreads henley sidesteps all of these issues. My one concern is that it does shrink slightly in the dryer on the 'delicates' setting. (Preshrunk cotton is a thing! I don't understand companies' aversion to using it.) But there's still enough length in the torso, and there's still no pulling/puckering around the clavicle, and the collar still keeps its shape, so I guess this is the best for now.
EDIT: I bought a second one in a different color (tan, vs. the moonlight blue I'd gotten before), and even though they're the same size, the tan one is subtly but noticeably smaller than the blue one. They both shrank slightly in the dryer, but the blue one started out slightly larger, and I wish the tan were as large as the blue. So much for quality control.
Ordered as part of prime wardrobe and had to return it. The shirt felt like it was decent enough quality but the fit was definately what you would call modern - meaning it was trim. I tend towards needing an xxl for room in the shoulders and to move and this shirt felt like it was a muscle shirt. It would have been wearable but any shrikage at all and it would have been too tight.
I am 5'9, 185 and muscular build. I do have a torso that is 1-1.5" longer than "average" apparently. This shirt fit well at first, but after the first wash it shrunk up making it a pseudo-belly T. Can't wear it anymore. The shoulders, arms and chest fit well and the material is nice...but it wont' work for me.
We purchased the yellow and color was as shown. Only disappointed as the material is very thin and I know will not last long but purchased for family picture and it look great! Remember you get what you pay for. Good price for mediocre shirt.
