Mine might be just be a once off, but it did not come that sharp (cannot do a simple paper slice test). However, it is quite useful for opening up boxes quickly when I prefer to use a cheaper knife than one of my more expensive ones.
Lovely knife. Opens easily, locks solid. To unlock requires 2 hands isn't easy but solid. Knife was sharp enough from factory. Looks well made nice feel to it beveled edges etc. Is a small knife so use pics attached to see.
There's nothing quite like frothing rapids and the Herculean force of water crashing around boulders to thrill the souls of whitewater rafters. And there's no watersports knife quite like the Gerber River Shorty or its companion, the River Runner. We built these beauties especially for the unique requirements of rafting, paddling and diving.
Medium-carbon stainless steel is the core material, polished to within an inch of its life to limit corrosion. The blade is 3 inches of river runnin' versatility, with the serrated sharp side aiming up rather than down.
"The sheath is constructed of a hard plastic, which is perfection in the wet world. It can receive the knife in two ways. And it can be worn on your belt, on your boot, or attached to your floatation vest.
I bought this as I wanted a little knife to use as a box opener for my many Amazon packages. This seemed to tick the boxes, its small, sharp and relatively inexpensive.
The packaging was nice to look at, but I could have done with the knife to get into it, frustration free it was not - some work required i think here.
Once you have battled past the robust packaging, what you are presented with is a small but well made, nicely styled cutting device. The blade itself doesn't come mega sharp, however it sharpens well and seems to hold its edge. If Mick Dundee were here he'd be telling me "Thats not a knife" - but luckily I don't live in a 1980's movie!!
The blade pulls out without any safety catch (not like you can do it accidentally) and clicks into a locked position with a satisfying sound. When you have finished cutting, carving and chopping (or whatever it is you intend to do with it) then there is a metal lever to press before you can manually fold the blade down.
This lever - as commented in some other reviews is pretty stiff, and actually requires more force that i think is necessary. I think this makes the knife a little unsafe as the extra force required could distract from the pointy end of things. A small risk, but one that could have been avoided.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase - the knife will almost certainly get regular use - 1 point lost for the frustrating packaging and the excessive force required to close the blade.
The reason this got a 4 star for me is that when it locks in place its pretty awkward to get it unlocked to place back in to its safety position. This is a very sharp knife it also has a place where you can clip it to your belt or clothing. The locking of it is very sturdy and wont unlock unless you pull the metal handle to the side and push down the knife but its tricky once it is out i can assure you when using it , it wont close. I use this for opening parcels and packaging. Enjoy - Prob the best one value for money right now.
