The good.......the suction cup on the car mount has not moved since being placed in the car and it is easy to install. The bad.......everything else: 1) The phone cradle never stay in place for long. Once you have found a favorable position for the cradle, there is a nut to tighten at the back which is supposed to hold it securely on the ball swivel. No matter how much you tighten the nut, the cradle eventually loosens and droops which then requires the nut to be re-tightened. However, after numerous times of having to re-tighten the nut, it now turns freely and there nothing that can be done to hold the cradle in place. 2) When the arm is tightened and locked in place it allows for A LOT of up and down movement i.e it bounces all over the place when you hit a bump in the road. 3) The extendable arm (unless fully un-retracted) feels very insecurely held in the arm.
While I had high hopes for this item, I should have realized that this is cheaply made overseas rubbish and the chances of it exceeding expectations were already extremely slim. The car mount lasted about 3 weeks and now I will have to look for something more durable. Avoid this item and pay a little extra for something that is actually built for its purpose.
UPDATE: I was contacted by a customer service agent apologizing for the problems I experienced. I was offered a full refund as well as $30Z gift cards. The contact was made after I reviewed reviewed product on Amazon. I did not have to call them. The company went beyond any expectations I had. They were courteous and concerned the product I ordered was defective. I would not hesitate to order from this company again. Original Review: I ordered this product based on reviews. However when I mounted it in car and used it the first time it suddenly fell off. The suction cup gave way during the trip and it fell and broke apart while I was driving. I love the design. It allows you to change height angle it and way you choose and holds phone securely. (It still held ly phone even after item fell and broke. I was terribly disappointed. I had been excited to get because with some eyesight problems it brought the data closer so I could read. Later I piece and taped what wasnt broken and tried mounting on table when iik nears away from home and in need of this. amazingly it held up beautifully for phone when iik was using wifi.. worked inwood table, not on car surfaces. So sad!!!!
The biggest problem is that the phone sits too high in the cradle. The bottom "prongs" aren't adjustable. So, the phone's sits far above the dash level line of sight and obstructs the driver's view, even if the boom is at its lowest point. Because about a third of the phone sticks out beyond the top of the holder, it is tricky to swivel the phone to the panoramic view when using a map app. It WILL fall out if the vehicle hits a bump. The holder feels solid, and the suction is incredible. But, none of that matters if the phone isn't well-positioned, or stays in place.
I definitely can rave about the suction. It's great but it's useless if the sides do not adjust evenly & continue holding the phone tight & centered. I have a Samsung S10, bought two of these Maxboost Durahold Series mounts for two separate cars in late Jun 2020 & both of them have stayed strong with suction but have both failed before Sep with the ratcheting sides eventually failing, first becoming uneven on opening/extending, then no longer centering the phone when gripping, then no longer gripping well at all. This was all with just occasional usage per week for each of the the two I ordered & used part-time each for under two months. I would expect it to last me at least a year or so. Since the same thing happened in two different cars with two of the same Maxboost mounts, this confirms poor quality workmanship with the internal plastic gears. Basically cheap plastic gears are not holding up and are getting stripped. At least the suction is still good but these are now useless!
The very first time I put the phone in the holder the left hand arm jumped some gears inside the holder so it is no longer the same distance when open or closed. So when the phone is clamped in the phone is off center so I can not plug in my charger because it is not centered anymore between the two bottom arms. But what do you expect for the money. I have thought of taking it apart and resetting the teeth. But I figure it will just skip some teethe again. Just need to get a new, better made phone holder. If it was not for that. It would be great.
I would like to start by saying the dash mounting mechanism they supply for this phone mount is excellent. It hadnt moved or otherwise had any issues with adhesion.
Unfortunately that is where my praises for the product end. At the beginning, the product worked great, held my Galaxy s10 Plus securely and felt like it was a solid product. Have lost of adjustability and was easy to get oriented in a way that was comfortable for viewing and interacting with while on the road.
After about a week, i noticed that the phone fit a little loosely in the holder. I thought maybe i had accidently hit the release button when removing or installing the phone, so i tightened it back down and went on my way.
Over the course of a couple of days, i began to notice that the clamps would periodically be wider than they were when i started the day. but pushing it back toward the phone seemed to address the issue. After a few times of doing this however, i noticed i was no longer able to put the phone on the bracket with the power cord plugged into it.
It was then i noticed that the brack was actually only securing on 1 side and that the right arm seemed to have failed completely. even after attempting to correct the issue, it got to the point where any little bit of contact with the right arm would cause it to fully extend. Of course this unit fully fails at almost exactly the 30 day mark so i was unable to request a refund or replacement. I am still using it because with the left side fully clamped it will hold my phone, albeit without being able to keep the phone charged, but it will do for now and im tired of trying to buy these things.
The screw that holds the sliding arm section in places tends to work itself loose and fall out, leaving you to disassemble the thing and reassemble in order to get it working again.
EDIT 7/22/19: I have owned this clunker for almost less than a month and already it's failing. The screw nut that is supposed to lock the phone's angle and orientation has totally failed. Despite being tightened down to 'roid rage gorilla levels of tightness, even the smallest of bumps is enough to knock the phone loose, pointing it down at the shifter in despair. Don't buy this thing. At least the suction cup works.
Updated 2/15/20 - The side holders of the mount no longer hold my phone tightly. It frequently drops my phone.
Purchased 12/5.19 - I was looking for a windshield mount and decided to try this one. The package comes with mounting options for your dash as well. I placed it on my windshield very easily and through hot or cold it hasn't lost suction for over a month now. Only thing I'll say as a con is that with the case on my iPhone 11, I can't get it to click tight as it's in-between locks. The end of it is curved so it still holds my phone in place, just not tight.
It worked great for the about 6 months then it became summer and now it won’t close so it can’t hold my phone. The adhesive is great though and so is the adjustment qualities it has. I have an iPhone 7+ and they can be pretty heavy phones. But since it’s been around 100 degrees this summer something in the inside of the mount has been melting out and onto my car. Idk what it is. A plastic from the inside of the mount it looks like. And the arms that are supposed to hold my phone in place aren’t closing around my phone anymore. So it’s great if you don’t live hot places.
