To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is very expensive for what it does and the quality of the material. it’s space of very cheap feeling plastic. There are much better and more stable options available. I have had this for a few months now and though I was initially recommending it, I can no longer do this as I am finding that it keeps “crashing”. It becomes unresponsive and I have to remove its battery and reinsert it for it to recognize motion and come online again. It makes it pretty much useless.
When it works, I like that it provides the room illumination.
Sending this unit back. Inconsistent motion detection, lux readings make no sense and the unit stops talking to controller. Works for about 2 days then needs to be battery reset to start talking again.
I have an older Aeon unit right beside it which has been working for ages. You would figure the new TriSensor would be better then it's older sibling... Nope. As mentioned, light readings were way out in stupid range when it was bright and really only seemed to report accurately below 75 lux.
A little pricey. When it's working properly it works pretty well, however, I've tried 2 of these and both of them go offline every 2 days or so. The only way to bring them back to life is to temporarily remove the battery. I don't have this problem with any of my other sensors. Very frustrating.
It does what it says it will do. Set up very easily. To detect it you have to put it near the vera controller. After that, you can put it anywhere. Very happy with it. Will have to get a new battery for it eventually.
Use Case I've been into Z-Wave for a long time, so I have a collection of old PIRs (ex. ZW074s) from a variety of different vendors. Generally, they are not Z-Wave Plus devices, they are on the large side, and they use AA or AAA batteries. MultiSensor 6s make up the majority of my modern sensors. I had been phasing out my older equipment for newer stuff, but I noticed the TriSensor when I was looking for a bulk deal on MultiSensor 6s. I really only used the temperature and PIR of the previous sensors, so I thought I'd try a TriSensor. The capability deficit gets you a price reduction of between 15 and 30%.
Build Quality/Appearance The TriSensor comes in a small box, not much bigger than the sensor itself. Double-sided foam tape is included, as are two small wood screws, and a small fold-out manual. The housing of the TriSensor is dimensionally almost identical to the MultiSensor6 (pictured), with the main difference being that the face of the TriSensor is flat (as opposed to a PIR dome) and translucent. The indicator LED is behind the face, instead of behind a small pinhole. If the idea is for the sensor to blend in, it will do so much more readily than the MultiSensor 6 (pictured). The included mount will do the job, but is extremely cheap looking.
NOTE: A CR123A battery is supplied (installed), despite the product listing indicating that no batteries are included. The battery has a small plastic tab that needs to be removed to complete the circuit.
Setup/Performance Once powered, the device included on my controller within about 90 seconds (log pictured), creating 6 devices in HomeSeer (pictured). Initially the PIR wasn't behaving as I expected, so I changed parameter 4 on the device. Doing so exposes one of the key differentiators between the TriSensor and the MultiSensor 6... the TriSensor doe not have a USB port. While most probably would not hardwire their sensors, it is handy to have the sensor on line power when setting up and configuring the device. As it was, I hit the button to "wake up" the device as I enumerated and changed the device parameter settings. The PIR and temperature sensors appear to be comparable to the MultiSensor 6. The light sensor on the TriSensor is vastly superior to the one on the MultiSensor 6. I'm looking forward to being able to more reliably use ambient light levels in my scenes as trigger criteria.
Since the TriSensor hides the report LED behind the face, it has a much cleaner look... until the light goes off. The indicator light is REALLY bright (much more so than the one on the MultiSensor 6. You can modify the report colors for the different sensor events, and you can even disable the lights completely (if you want a stealthy look).
Conclusion If you do not need humidity, UV, and vibration sensing, there's no reason to avoid the TriSensor. Generally speaking, you can equip every room with one or more of these sensors, so the price difference can end up being significant. It's subjective, but I like the look of the TriSensor a bit more than the MultiSensor 6, though I did turn off the indicator LEDs. Recommended.
I purchased 3 of these based upon my favorable experience with other aeotec products including the multi Sensor 6, wallmotes, sirens etc. So far I have tried to use 2 of these without any success on my smart things system. I thought at first it was a problem with the included battery that seemed to die after one week. New Duracell batteries and still disconnecting from system in a day to a week. Just can't keep them running, they always seem to stick with motion on so related switches stay on sensing motion. Remove the battery and reset, they connect back up and run for a bit then start process over again. Also product case etc much cheaper material than the multi Sensor 6 line. These devices are useless to me and I am outside the Amazon return time so unless aeotec is listening, I am now out over $100. Look for a different product or spend the extra for the multi Sensor 6.
I bought TriSensor to be used as a environmental monitor and motion presence detector for my room, It does everything it needs especially as a presence sensor.
Pros: + Has configuration to allow it to act as a presence sensor, does this by default (and can be disabled if needed) + Accurate temp sensor + Lux Sensor much more accurate that Multisensor 6 + Easy to understand parameter settings (offset sensors to increase accuracy, LED color configurable) + Threshold settings automatically send reports quickly + Same size as Multisensor 6 + Fits in the same recessor that Multisensor 6 uses.
Cons: + Does not have USB connection like Multisensor 6 and requires CR123A batteries + Requires a custom device handler on SmartThings, but Aeotec provides this in their support page.
