My daughter is 8, and very thin, but average height. She normally wears a 7/8 in shirts. She normally doesn't like turtlenecks (that too-tight feeling around her neck bothers her), but the neck on this one was fine -- snug to get over her head, but not tight at all around her neck.
Some turtlenecks have a lot of fabric in the neck (in terms of folding it down), and/or fit tightly around the neck, but this one didn't. As a matter of fact, it could probably have been slightly "taller" in the neck (there's enough fabric to fold it down, though), but I was glad it wasn't too snug. Otherwise she would've been uncomfortable.
The arm length on a size 8 was fine for her.
The overall length of the shirt was fine for her (if she raised her arms, no skin shows).
We needed a white turtleneck to go underneath her cheerleader uniform. This one worked perfectly! Very pleased with the fit.
However, if your child is average weight/thickness, this will likely be more fitted on them in the torso area. If your child is tall, I think it will still work, though. If your child has a bit more meat on her/him (which is perfectly normal. My child is challenging to fit at times because she's a bit of a stick), it will probably be quite snug in the torso and may not work well for you. But for slender/smaller kids, I think it's perfect, especially being worn underneath something else.
Whenever I buy turtlenecks for my daughter, I always look for the Leveret brand, and here are my reasons why. I do buy them in one or two sizes larger, because I want the length to go below my daughter's hips. I have to roll her sleeves up, but she can wear them for at least two years. I love the material, and the colors are as they appear on the website. They wash up nice, and the colors do not bleed or fade. I'm glad that I can choose what color turtleneck I want, because there is such a variety to choose from. I bought the whole rainbow, because the price for me was unbeatable. I would recommend these turtlenecks.
This is the second purchase we've made of the Leveret turtleneck. The first was for a Halloween costume, but when we got it, my child fell in love with it b/c it is SUPER SOFT, and the neck is NOT super tight fitting. She has eczema, so we are always looking for all cotton products-the softer the better. She tends to get an 'eczema spot on her neck' so the fact that the turtleneck isn't tight, but covers the irritated area of her skin is a bonus for us!!! Well, when she continued to wear her costume as regular play clothes-I decided she needed another set (we also got the matching leggings). The color/quality/fit/price of this item is tremendous-already looking for other colors!
Definitely size up. I bought Size 8 for my 6yo. She is average height and super skinny. I bought one of these turtlenecks for a Halloween costume (in green, perfect color for dinosaur, dragon, crocodile). My daughter kept wearing it. A year later it was way too small and she wanted to wear the same costume so I bought another one, 2 sizes larger. She keeps wearing it as it is soft and comfortable. It is like t-shirt material, not thick. So I bought this red one just for variety. The color is great. True red, not a hot pink hue. The turtleneck keeps her warm on the walk to school but the material is thin enough that she doesn’t boil to death inside the overheated school building.
Based on the awesome reviews, I was pretty confident purchasing this turtleneck for my daughter. We, however, didn't have great luck. Most reviewers said the shirt ran small so I ordered her true size and one size up just in case. My daughter is on the short side and is a tad thicker than average but doesn't typically have a lot of issues fitting in clothes. This shirt in her true size was too big on her. Nice and long for an average to tall kiddo, but not for my petite girl. It was also kind of baggy. Not sure what would happen after washing. My biggest complaint tho is that it was see through! Yes it's hard to find a white shirt that isn't, but for kids!?! I mean, skin color was obvious and she's very fair toned. I returned them.
I ordered in several colors for our son. These are lightweight turtlenecks. So far, he enjoys wearing them (has had only 1 week). Easy to fit over his head. However, the white shirt is so thin that his skin tones show through. I will have him wear an undershirt underneath when he wears to school. As for the "fit," they fit true to size, but the "fit" of the shirt to him is just okay. Wondering if that's because the shirts are unisex, but don't know.
Overall, these are okfor the price, but I will be looking at other options for future turtleneck purchases.
Love this turtleneck. It's to be used under a Halloween princess costume that is sleeveless and too low cut. My 7 year old daughter is small for her age and wears a size 5/6. I didn't want to take a chance that this turtleneck would be too small so I bought a size 7. I was expecting to alter the sleeves and hem up the bottom. I am pleasantly surprised that I don't have to do either alteration. I admit it is a teeny bit big but it's not bad. I just washed it and the turtleneck did not shrink. I'm really happy with this purchase.
Last year I tried to find a white turtleneck in the girls dept. of stores in my area & I couldn't find any. Mine was dirty with stains that wouldn't come out & a hole in it. I thought maybe they didn't make them anymore but found these on here. This fits really well & the sleeves are the right length, not to long & not to short. The only thing I don't like about it is it's not very heavy & you can see through it. What can I expect from something made in China? The 10 year size is a perfect fit & I'm 4'6" tall & 88 lbs. for those who need to know. All 3 of them, the black, white & yellow fit the same.
The color is very nice. However, the size is smaller than I expected. My child is wearing size 7 now. I bought size 8 for him. I was worry that size 8 might be too large for him, but it turns out that the shirt is a little small for him. He has to squeeze his head hard into this new shirt. I think I should buy size 10. The clothes is also thinner than all his turtleneck shirts.
Purchase for my 10/11ish yr-old slim son who is about 4’8 tall and 66lbs., as part of his Halloween costume. I recommend the usual or current size. I got the 11-12 size which is like a large and appears to fit him pretty well with little room for shrinking in the wash/dryer. If your child has a long torso recommend one size up. Overall, it fits as expected for my son’s current age.
