To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
As others have stated, this most definitely is not actual silk. It has none of the characteristics of silk other than being "silky feeling". I'm not sure how they get away with blatant false information, but I knew when I bought it that it was highly unlikely it would be silk. The price alone is a dead giveaway.
All that said, it is a beautiful print and the size is generous. Just what I was looking for. It feels nice and smooth against the skin. The color is exactly as shown. For all those reasons, it saddens me to have to give it only two stars. If only they had not deliberately been deceitful by making false claims... I could have happily given it 5 stars.
One way to tell if a material is real silk is by rubbing it between your hands. Real silk gets warm. Synthetics don't. This scarf is not real silk. I would not have bought it if I knew before purchasing. It does look nice from a distance and I will probably find some use for it. I did end up buying a real silk scarf from a local shop which I plan to wear more regularly. Real silk feels amazing to the touch.
I collect vintage scarves and have numerous Gucci, Hermes, Givenchy, and other silk scarves, so I've gotten pretty good at telling the fakes from the genuine ones.
Let me run down what a real one looks like, firstly:
1) 100% substantial-weight smooth, uniform, high thread-count silk twill 2) hand-sewn rolled-hem, with thread to coordinate with the scarf. 3) the design is either woven in or pressure-printed so that the color is uniform on both sides 4) the designer tag is "tacked" on (something you will understand if you sew), with a single button-stitch on either side so that it is easy to remove.
Now, this one is not silk twill, it's a thinner silk crepe, but still beautiful. It's also machine stitched, and the thread is red, so it doesn't blend well with the design edge patterns. Still, it's a beautiful pressure-printed design, and quite substantial.
And, it's huge. It's about the size of a typical pashmina stole. You could wear this so many different ways.
This product is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I got the parrot one, and it's so pretty and colorful!!! Definitely real silk, and it's a substantial weight too. Would be a beautiful wrap as well, because it's certainly large enough to drape across your shoulders and arms. It would be a lovely wrap over a sundress for a cruise, wedding, or just sunset drinks beachside! Get it, you won't be disappointed!!
This lovely scarf will make a wonderful gift. The only criticism I have concerns the hem. It was not a rolled hem, which I was expecting on such a pretty scarf, but more of a flat hem with the stitching on top.
