I did not want to spend $11 on three measly hair ties. Especially for and item that is notorious for being lost and broken. Being a soldier in the military I can't afford to have my hair out of regulation and the regular hair ties break throughout the day. I was forced to look for better quality ones and I don't regret it. They're worth every dollar! It's not quite like any other hair tie I've seen before. It's really thick, very expandable and super durable. I have thick, coarse, nappy, natural, African American hair and these certainly do the job! I don't care what type of hair you have or how much of it you got because these will do the job. And they won't rip out your hair while doing it. :)
In the photo I wrapped the band around the container twice with ease and left it there for three days. When I took it off it wasn't loose or worn out like another brand of hair tie would be. Been using these for a month and figured these deserved an awesome review!
They work for fine hair too - I have thin, slick/silky fine hair - but a very sensitive head -- it is very hard for me to wear my hair in a pony tail because most hair bands that are tight enough to 'grip' my hair and not slip out, will also PULL some individual strands or pull all of them, so I'm either feeling pain and annoyance from individual strands here and there, or a headache of the whole punch is pulled too tight. The other alternatives, hairbands with silicone strips or soft silicone 'teeth' don't slip but still pull. Thick or thin, very few hair bands can hold my hair without either slipping, or pulling. But this burlyband is amazing - it has has a fabric grippy surface - hard to explain - it's not tacky, but if I put in one pony tail and wrap it twice around - it's loose enough not to give me a headache - but does NOT pull my hair at all - and does not slip AT ALL - it holds my ponytail at a nice angle. Or, if I put in two pony tails and wrap a band three times around - it has a great strong grip without being tight.
The final comment -which probably hardly anyone reading this will relate to since these are supposedly for people with masses of thick hair -- is that these thick burlybands actually appear to GIVE my thin, fine skimpy hair volume, because of the way they hold the pony tail and project it out from my head - which is great! Usually my ponytails just sag and hang down with regular bands.
This band is all things to all people - whether you have the masses thick tresses or fine thin baby hair like me.
Probably the fourth or fifth batch I've bought. I give these out a lot to long-haired individuals using damaging things like actual rubber bands to tether their scalp feathers. Any time these get a little stretched out I just shampoo them, let them air dry, and they're as good as new. Burlybands are the only things that will hold my hair all day. I mean, look at the pic. This head of hair is no match for a lesser band!
I have insanely thick and heavy hair. What makes it even more unmanageable is that it’s really smooth. So I have trouble getting hairstyles and hair pieces to stay in my hair. (Also, don’t mean to complain, I am thankful for a wonderful head of hair, it’s just tough to deal with sometimes!)
I am just now about to retire hair tie number one from this theee pack six months later. It’s only because this band has finally stretched out too much to be of much use. That being said, the last six months have been a dream. I put my hair up once at the beginning of the day, it stayed up all day, and it really gripped my hair to stay into styles that other plebeian hairties just couldn’t handle or accomplish with my massive head of hair.
At first glance they may seem thick, but once in my hair, they just look cute and are super effective.
I am only leaving this review because I had a moment of panic that if I moved on to 2/3 hair tie, isn’t only have one left and the company would of course decide to discontinue or something. That would be my luck. Thank goodness that is not the case. I’m ordering a next pack now just in case though.
I really did not like this at all. I have thick, naturally curly hair and I bought these bands based on other people's reviews. These bands fit extremely tightly on the hair and they are very thick in width so I found that they actually break my hair as badly, if not worse, than a regular hair band. Maybe if you have super-thick hair and only need to wrap the band once, they are better, but they were awful for me. When I logged my complaint with the company, at first I received an email that I needed to return the item and pay for shipping once again, however, I later received an updated email that I would be fully refunded without having to pay shipping. That is excellent customer service.
As I came here to re-order these I decided I should give them a review. I have long and thick hair. The standard hair tie you can get at any store has always disappointed. Constantly adjusting ponytail during workouts or runs. Constantly breaking. Losing their elasticity all the time. Two times around ponytail is not quite enough to hold, three times and I feel like I'm being scalped. So tight on my wrist (when not wearing in hair) it leaves indentations. Burly Bands have changed all that. I bought these nearly THREE years ago and they JUST started to stretch out. My old bands barely lasted a month before either stretching out too much or breaking. I run and do yoga and I never have to adjust these bands. Nor do I have to readjust in an entire day of wearing my hair up. They are also so soft that they do not break my hair or get snagged or tangled. These are great and I recommend them for anyone who has experienced what I have with bands of the past.
I have hair down to my waist, and it's maybe medium in thickness. It's not curly but there's some wave to it. Anyhow, these hair ties really are a lot stronger and stay in place better than regular skinny ones. I can wrap these around my hair 3 times and it's snug, 2 times and it stays but the ponytail feels looser. Only thing is I wish they were skinnier, bc they remind me of a scrunchy when I use them (look wise.) I added a few pics too. Hope they help. :)
Ordered these on 8/22. Currently they’re stretched out, which is disappointing because my husband couldn’t find anything that held his hair. He really liked these until they started to wear out. We’re washing them and running them through the dryer which seems to be helping short term. For the price I would have liked to see them last at least 6 months. Shown next to a Goody thin hair tie for comparison.
I have been looking for quite some time for a pony tail holder that actually can fit all of my hair. I typically go for the "ouch free" so it doesn't pull my hair but those tend to stretch out and break when I try to twist it 3x. I may be able to get that 3rd twist one time before it starts to bust at the seam. After that its touch and go for how long it'll last so I always keep a spare on my phone. These are pretty fantastic. My hair is really thick...really thick. Its curly as well so double whammy. I can barely get this around 2x but its not tight at all. You definitely have to work harder with these than normal hair ties because it is a thick material as well.
Hopefully these 3 will last a while though on the -package it does say to rotate them to avoid them stretching out to fast. Other than that I've only used one and so far so good as I use it daily and haven't noticed it loosening at all.
