I have huge respect for the work which VOCES8 have done, and have very much enjoyed their previous releases. Unfortunately, I found this much-anticipated new disc to be disappointing. VOCES8 produce a sublime vocal sound, so it is a shame that this has been hidden behind some over-complex arrangements, additional instrumentation, and what comes across as 'new age' 'effects'. Don't get me wrong, this is a high quality performance, but it's not the VOCES8 we know and love. No choir should be afraid to hide behind the unique sound of its own voices. Let the voices speak for themselves.
Typical high Voces 8 quality songs, but they've taken it too far. They've taken the heart out of the songs and changed it into one Voces 8 medley. Beautiful songs like May It Be, Theme From Harry's Game, and The Parting Glass are hardly recognizable. Very disappointing from a vocal group with such high quality.
one of the sopranos in this group of singers is quite magnificent, a reminder of how the human voice is a quite stunning instrument and like the iceberg principle there may well be a ladle full of god givenl talent there is also much application, hard work and care of that gift to bring it to this quality; there is much to appreciate here.
This is a wonderful album to just sit and relax to, some wonderful tunes, some well known, some not so well known, but all beautifully performed and presented by this talented group of singers. It has been lovely to listen to during the stress of lockdown, showing there is peace to be found in the world.
