Excellent replacement for my tele copy. I got the guitar because it resonates really well, but the hardware left a lot of room for improvement. These tuners plus a new lubricated tusq nut solved all my tuning issues. I detune to drop C and the ratio is good enough. I actually don't string these as per instructions, I just use the top hole for the bottom thick strings and the lower holes for the top strings and wind normally, and that eliminates the need for a string tree as well and it holds tune like never before. I was going to buy more expensive tuners, but these feel well made and I own a few vintage guitars and they come with wilkinson hardware which is excellent so I thought to give these a go. Wilkinson pickups are next on my list.
I've bought a couple of these sets to complement re-finishes of cheaper guitars. As in under £300 or so. They're a solid performing tuner which look good and help towards tuning instability. A nice addition for the current kit guitar fad which sometimes come supplied with horrific tuners.
Bought these for an inexpensive guitar that though was a fantastic value and quality for the price, the tuners were very sub par and did not hold tune very well. They actual slipped and had play in the tuner.
I used the Wilkinson brand to replace those and must say I am very please of the quality and happy with my purchase. These were a direct replacement that fit perfectly without any modification what is ever.
They hold tune 100 times better than to old tuners and though the stringing of the tuners are slightly different that what I am used to, the design of them really does work.
I would recommend these and will buy again. They were inexpensive compared to other brands. Though I can’t say they are better it worse...I do compare these to my fenders, Gretsch and Grover tuners in my other guitars and they hold there own.
My original tuners had significant play in them. These have none. I had to enlarge the original holes to a single bore of 3/8". Then the tuners fit in nice and snug. The internally threaded retaining nut fit this size as well. Once the holes were bored out, installation was simple. Align them all square, then predrill the retaining screw hole with a 1/16 pilot hole. They turn smoothly and hold tuning very well. Certainly an upgrade for me.
