Oh my word what a fabulous bit of kit. It is pricey it is annoying that batteries are not included but Wow is all I can say. I have 2 kitties, one likes to graze and the other likes to devour everything in sight so it was hard trying to ensure both were being fed appropriately. One of the kitties is slightly on the heavy side so this allows me to not only ensure that each feeding station is specific to each kitty but that I can monitor how much is fed, their feeding patterns and their overall consumption to eventually work out the appropriate amounts to feed them.
It’s easy to set up. I was a bit nervous about it but the app makes it easy and having the Hub really helps.
My heavy boy took to it immediately, I didn’t have it in training mode. And I removed all other sources of food to ensure the cats were comfortable. The second kitty is a skittish thing and so it took a lot of cajoling and getting him comfortable with it. A tiny trail of dreamies seemed to help there and within 2 days he was fine. I think it’s just the initial noise of the lid opening that made him super cautious. It’s not even been a week and both are, fed and happy - well the kitty that eats everything isn’t that happy as it’s not a free for all anymore!
I was cautious in spending the money to get this and the negative reviews did make me think twice but the way I saw it was, you wouldn’t be looking for a product like this if something wasn’t bothering you.. this is for me the only one that ticked all the boxes for what I needed. So opted to just go for it and formulate my own opinion!
I brought this feeder because I have 2 cats. One is very skinny and needs access to food all the time. The other is fat and is on a diet, so he's always trying to steal food. I brought a slow feeder for the fat one, which I'm very happy with. And then I got the surefeed feeder for my skinny cat. After buying it, I realised I had to also buy the flap that covers the back of the machine. But that wasn't enough to deter my fat cat. So I had to also buy the HUB, so that surefeed costumer service could remotely set the feeder to "intruder mode". The app is quite limited in options, but the intruder mode worked! However, the amount of food my cat ate shown in the app was always completely wrong. I contacted costumer service again and they said probably the scale was faulty and sent me a replacement feeder. The second one, however, was even more buggy than the first one. It opened on it's own for no reason and sometimes ignored the intruder mode. Fat kitty had a great time! Probably there was something wrong with the chip sensor, so I complained again and they replaced it with a third one. Guess what? Intruder mode is once again not working properly and I already completely gave up on having the correct amount of food displayed in the app... In the end I ended up returning everything. It's a shame, because this product was the perfect solution to my problems, if only it worked properly... I know there's some people online who were luckier than me and still have their feeder working perfectly (at least when it comes to intruder mode) for a very long time. I should have kept the first one and just ignored the amount of food on the app. Costumer service was great. They just need to fix some problems in this product.
We have two cats, one is highly motivated by food while the other doesn't care about food at all. Due to this, we decided to buy this expensive unit so he could eat in peace. It seems that in order to enable intruder mode you have to email Sure Petcare and they email you back a list of instructions that don't match up with what the pet feeder has. I think they might have supplied instructions for an older unit (non-connect version??).
Either way, it's hard to set up and we haven't got it working yet plus our cat is suspicious of it.
Hopefully we'll get up and running at some point and learn how to enable intruder mode so his food doesn't get stolen. The app is really slow and cumbersome too which is a shame as it looks ok.
I already have three of the non-connect sure feeders, as my cats all have different dietary needs, and all try to steal from each other. They are great, and when we have had any issues, customer service has been great. I decided to buy the connect version when I realised it had scales for weighing food consumption. One of my cats is rather overweight, and I need to more closely manage her consumption. I am currently looking after an additional kitten (a foster) who became quite poorly and stopped eating for a couple of days. She’s had medication from the vet, and a special high calorie food to help her. I decided that ‘Sumo cat’ could wait a little longer, and poorly kitten would get first try at the connect feeder. Wow, it is utterly amazing. You tell the app how much you want to feed, whether you have wet or dry in each bowl. It tells you if you have added the right weight to each bowl. It then reports to the app every time the kitten eats, and what weight of each food she has eaten. Incredibly reassuring to see that she has visited the feeder every couple of hours, and how much she has eaten each time.
I cannot recommend this highly enough, it’s amazing!
I have two cats, both micro-chipped and one have recent been diagnosed with kidney issues.
She needed to be put on a special cat food that my other cat can't eat, so I was looking for solutions for feed her as both my cats are grazers. I don't earn a lot of money so but £119 cat bowl was a lot but it is for my cat so I did. Now she is 10 year old, soon to be 11 and it is hard for her to learn new things but we preserved as it is our only option.
I opted to connect it to the tag that comes with the product and not her micro chip but last night I found out it opens for my other cat too, now, I promise you I did not connect it to him nor did it open for him up until last now.
So, it would seem it actually opens for any pet with a micro-chip that can fit under the arch. So I am now £119 down with a cat bowl that doesn't really work. Since I don't want to risk my other younger cat I have to remove the micro-chip cat bowl and put down normal food whilst I think off a different and cheaper way of feeding my older cat her food.
I will say, if you're trying to stop neighbors cats (non-micro-chipped) or big dogs from getting the food it will probably do the job but keep the box longer than a few day so you can return it if it doesn't work out.
I've been wanting this feeder for my cat for so long. He eats mature cat food, while my other 2 cats eat regular cat food. I don't have an issue with him eating the other cats food, but the other cats want to eat his food. Before this feeder, I had to keep his food tucked away and put it down every so often for him, or wait for him to meow at me. He's a grazer, so I love seeing how much he eats and at what times. I bought the hub at the same time so I could use the app. The only downside to this feeder is that the bowls are a bit small. They JUST fit the amount of food I feed my cat. I've also fumbled with the bowls while trying to call my cat over and the feeder thought I filled it with more food, and then that my cat ate a large quantity of food. I wish you could edit the feedings/refills on the app.
